Well it did make me learn to budget my money better when I have a $250 car note every month and the $600 insurance bill every six months and I was making $6.50/hour roughly twenty hours a week.
So it can be done.

I got a $600 1988 Ford Escort Pony with 1.8Ls of ground pounding four-cylinder fury when I turned 16. If you're not willing to work for something, then it probably isn't that important to you anyway.

My first job was at a pool supply store, restocking shelves and testing water...
$6.50/hr + 5% commission on profit on ANY product I rang up at the register (with ~40% markup I'd usually see $4-50 per $200 rung up, depending on product) so over the course of the day it averaged out to around $10 per hour.. which was huge money for me back in the day and more than covered the car payments on my 89 5.0 hatch

It gets better. I only got the drive the Mustang on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. I drove a '05 Ford Tempo around during the week.
I worked at EB Games for $6.50 and then I left there and worked at a pizza place for $6.00 and I also worked at Kohl's for $7.25 an hour.
So my senior year in high school, I had two jobs.

In HS I worked for a moving company at like 6 an hour. Then my senior year I started working for a construction company at 7 an hour. I worked there until my sophomore year of college. Then I started working for a bookstore off campus who owns apartments and land right next to campus. I could work before class in the morning, walk to class, and work the afternoon.
None of the jobs were real glamorous, eventhough the christmas break I spent on a towboat going down the MS river was awesome, but they paid the bills.
Just got a job with Terminix and I'm moving next weekend to start there. Finally be making enough to be able to really save back.

whatever you can get. its not easy to get a job... especially a job you like. its almost impossible until you got a college major under your belt. i say apply to as many places as possible and then narrow down the choices.

Lawyers and doctors make good money.
But seriously when I was in HS I works in fast food and several steakhouses, but I don't recommend that route unless you can't find anything better. The girls and parties were great though.

When I turned 16, I was ALLOWED to USE my parents `96 Ford Ranger. If they needed both vehicles one day for any particular reason, I wasn't going anywhere unless it was with them or if someone picked me up unless it was for my job.
Just before I turned 19 I had decided I had worked long enough and saved enough to go ahead and buy my own car. I paid over half of it down in cash, and I pay my own insurance.
Be thankful you got a car at all, let alone a new one, let alone a "girl car".

parents bought my first car as well. 1974 Mustang II, harvest gold which was faded to school-bus yellow, 2.3L I4 with the 3spd slomatic. was alright, everyone at least only thought it was a V8, nobody was the wiser and it never came up.
after a while i got a job where i commuted a half hour everyday and the car had trouble maintaining 65-70mph on the freeway (it was taching 4500rpm in 3rd!) so we sold it and i got my 94 Tbird, which i payed my parents back for over the years. now its my sisters first car.
basically what im getting at is if your lucky enough that your parents give you a car, you fucking take whatever you get. you only get one handout when it comes to cars, anyone after that its on your own (they will probably cosign but you know what i mean).
my buddies first real job was Terminix. It was pretty kick back, he started out doing sprays then moved on to doing inspections (where you crawl under houses and shit looking for signs of insect damage and whatnot). he then went on to Clark because they guaranteed better pay, but they didnt and the people were assholes so that was that, and it was too late to go back to Terminix. good luck with the new job!

Sounds like your not happy with what you got maybe IMO .if you said something that showed a little excitment about getting a mustang instead of bitchin about it not being a GT and you only see girls driving 6's .
That kind of hard not to interrupt as being unappreciative .And your right no one so maybe your statement was mis understood . maybe if you said" hey I got a v6 stang for my B-Day really wanted a GT But I happy to have a mustang now that would show appreciation IMO
P.S.- there are quite a few 6's that eat GT alive
