It sounds like to me a wiring issue. There is either a short or a drain. See what someone else may say, I could be wrong, and I might be. I'm still a novice with cars.

I would pick up a new battery, only because that one is more than likely toast, and some new cables and start there.
Another thing is, even though your alternator is putting out the correct voltage, it may not be putting out enough amperage to charge the battery.

It might be your alternator, some times you can over spin them (or if they are messed up overspin them vs you wouldnt be able to if they were working right) and this can cause some issues. Get the alternator tested and see if they can test it as you get up in the rpms.
try not to do it because the whole system loses power aka fuel pump.

Most places have a bench tester for alternators/starters anyway. Take it off (which isn't hard at all) and have someone test it inside. The correct voltage by the way is around 14.5 with 13.5 being lowest acceptable, and 15.5 being highest. Amperage is typically in the 90 range but can vary.

what do you have done to the car?
im thinkin maybe in conjunction to possibly decreasing performance in your alternator (not broken yet) and/or deteriorating wiring, something simple such as your A/C or possibly stereo system could bog the entire system down.

Check your cables. If they have any growth on them then it will hurt the connection. Make sure they are good and tight and not slipping around.

That was happening with my car a year ago. The batter light would come on at high rpm and it was making a whining sound. I went threw the whole deal with putting a battery in first and it still did it. Turns out it was the alternator. I got one from the bone yard off a t bird and its worked fine.
