act sensor help

i just put a 97/98 explorer engine in my stang with the explorer/gt40 type intake and gt40-p heads. it has no provision for the air charge temperture sensor in the intake. should i drill a hole in my c.a.i. tube and put it in there. i'm run'n a '92 ecu. any ideas?

That can be done easily (installing it in the CAI).I had a hole drilled and tapped in my GT40 lower.I wanted it where the factory put it.

i think ima put it in the cai. i read up on it in my ford electronics book. the act is a redundant carry over from speed density. the mass air does the same thing. you from ardmore huh?...im from okc and went to moore west and grant in okc.

be careful, the factory tune is set up with the act in the intake... putting it in the CAI will throw the number out some, the computer can only compinsate so much.

im sure it can be done, but i'd do alot of research beforehand.

i've got a couple of books on ford electronics. the act detects ambient temps only. the effects are more pronounced on speed density systems than mass air. if you look at your mass air meter it has two elements, one heater and the other is for ambient temp., just like the act sensor. one of the books conducted dyno test on fooling the act, and it had lil to no effect on the dyno #'s. i have "5.0 ford dyno test" by richard holdener....and i have "ford fuel injection & electronic engine control" by charles probst. right now it's zip tied to the firewall, til i drill a hole in the cai..
