Hey all, I have a 2002 V6 mustang and just hit 70k miles on it. As for mods, I have a magnaflow exhaust(Y pipe kit), short throw shifter, 3.73 gears and auburn posi unit, CAI, and a custom chip by VMP (adjust speedo and performance tune). Anyway, I am a MN boy, but just moved to Kansas for grad school. Anyway, I had my check engine lite come on and I needed an oil change soon, so I took it in. When they checked the lite out, the code was for one of the cylinder heads overheating. they checked it out and read all the temp readings on the car and they said that everything was running great and the temps were normal and they were all within 1 degree of eachother and couldn't see a problem. I told them I had a chip and they said it might just be messing with the comp (throwing the check engine lite on when nothign is really wrong). Anyway, they cleared the light, gave me the code that came up just in case the light came on again, and recomended I ditched the chip and just had the speedo re-calibrated. Anyway, I was driving around today (week later) and the check engine light came on again after a lot of driving in really warm weather (100+ degrees and nasty humidity). Car seemes to be running fine as well. Anyway, I got a appointment with the local ford dealership in town in a few days to check it out. Anyway, does anyone have any thoughts? could the big difference in heat from KS to MN just be throwing things off? Anyone esle have problems like this?
the tune on the car has been working ok for about a year and a half, so I',m not sure about that....but could it be the tune? I have a perfromance tune for both regular and higher octane gas and the premium fuel setting has always had pinging issues so I never use it. Anywaym any input would be greatly appreciated.
