Im between a rock and a hard place right now and it sucks. Im to the point where I dont know if I want to keep the stang, but the other side of me does. Im getting hit hard with gas right now cause I commute about 20 minutes to work everyday, and its starting to A. rack up milage, and B. cost a lot when you have a gas guzzler. Im thinking about doing one of a couple things...
First, sell the car off all together and get a Lexus IS300, used with roughly 50k miles on it or less.
OR
Keep both cars, since I dont owe anything on it anyway, and take on a second Insurance bill every month and get an IS300.
Either way, I really like the IS300's, they get good gas milage, are still fun to tool around in, look nice, and well... theyre a toyota so they dont break.
What would you guys do?

So, let me make sure I'm understanding what you're saying...
You're getting a IS300. You want to know if you should hang onto the Stang, too?

Id like an is300, and im trying to determine if i want to sell the stang to use as a down payment sort of thing rather than paying double insurance on top of a new car payment as well as whatever other costs it costs me.
It basically comes down to, should i keep the mustang for an extra 300 bucks a month.

$3600 a year is a pretty hefty chunk of change... Is that car payment and insurance?

My problem is, if you are trying to save money by getting a better mileage car... then what is the sense in going into debt to get it. IMO, paying gas on the Stang is a hell of a lot cheaper than droppin the dough on a Lexus.

Why buy a Lexus if you want to save money? That's the complete opposite of saving money. You'll now have a car payement, plus insurance, plus gas. It's not going to be a miracle savings in gas either.

I think that insurance on the Lexus will be close to the same amoutn as your insurance on the mustang...maybe get something a little bit cheaper as far as insurance goes?
I have two vehicles now since i bought that F150 last month, but as far as money goes, the only thing i spend extra now per month is the truck note...the gas for the F150 and the Mustang is almost identical...my insurance on two vehicles is only about $30 more per month than it was before on the Mustang alone...the reason being, full coverage on the truck is like 40% less than full insurance on the mustang and now I am driving the mustang much less as far as insurance is concerned so the insurance on the mustang dropped by about 50+% as well...I was paying $131/month insurance on the mustang alone before, but now I am paying $100/month for the truck and about $60/month on the mustang...so the insurance isn't a big deal at all if you get a vehicle that will decrease the cost to insure the daily driving vehicle...getting a Lexus as a daily driver for a young guy probably isn't the best idea as far as insurance goes...

IS300s break, over the years we had TWO on our lots that needed such extensive repairs we had to buy each of them back from the customer, one had constant CELs, the other had suspension issues (failed wheel bearings, then bad brake calipers, then a rotted out brake line, etc) IMO they weren't all that great of a car from toyota, and not sure if you've ridden in them lately but they're not a great ride either

Then you don't want to save money You just want something newer.
Do what you wish but obviously on this site you won't see many people recommending you get rid of the Mustang.

I think what ill end up doing is getting one with a few more miles on it, and keeping the mustang and just putting it in storage or something for half the year. It really only costs me 100 bucks a month to have that car... insurance is actually cheaper on the mustang then it would be on a is300. Hrmm....
I offered some chick 13k for her 2001 with 68k on it.

Exactly, why spend more per month for a car note and ins, to save a tenth of that in gas
You could always get a Tc....... *couldn't resist*
