welcome to M.E. most people start with the basics like CAI and cat back exhaust. than you can move on to gears and a tuner and go from their. but it all depends on what you want to do with the car.

if you have the money go supercharger, if not there are all kinds of websites like ninosports, etc that sell the CAI, underdrive pulleys, exhuast (i would suggest going headers/manifolds back instead of catback), etc.
im pretty new too, or maybe just still green but gears means rear end gears right? will that make you ride higher rpms for the same speed (higher rpms on the highway with the diff gears)? and what does a tuner do for you?

Got me an 04 GT. First up for me, and most, was the CAI. Next, exhaust...
but yeah, all depends on what you want the car to do.

It does mean rear end gears and you are correct about the higher rpms. Gears don't give more horsepower but better acceleration, and even a few mpg in town. Most people say 3.73 for stick and 4.10's for auto. The 4.6 can rev better than a 5.0 so even 4.10 in a manual is great, thats what my dad has and its awsome. A tuner will re-program your computer and unlock some horsepower and torque, and if you get gears you can re-program the computer to correct the speedo, depending on which tuner you get.

i put CAI on my 04 GT and am looking at a new throttle body and exhaust. but ive heard that a performance underdrive pulley adds some significant power assuming you're not addin a SC any time soon. (please lemme know if im wrong.)

most bolt ons will give you less than 10hp/tq I would say a cai is worth about 7hp/tq on a gt and exhaust is about the same. The UDP will also be right in their~
