had some time at work, and started on the all-over on the mustang. Here are some progress pics, so you guys check em out, and you're more than welcome to ask anything, or give advice, im up for either.

img]http://carpron.com/multisite/d/160932-2/000_0002_001.jpg[/img]
just some pics from sat... i havent had a chance to take any more - the car is almost ready for some
Anyone else ever used this stuff??? this is the black that you saw on a couple of sanded spots - i used it to cover a couple of just light rust spots on the hatch.
I'll be calling foxrestoration tom to get my cowl ordered, and Im also going to do an antenna delete, with a glass mounted antenna when I get some time. The delete will be in place after the car is painted, so i wont be jammin to the radio, just some cd's till i get time to do a rewire, and some new carpet. I dont listen to the radio much anyway.
here are some pics of what i got done tonight...
still gotta get the bumpers where i want them before they get painted... for whatever reason, i couldnt get the bondo to dry enough to sand on the back bumper, so i'll just wait till tom night to get it blocked out and primed.

hmmm...and still I recall something about mike saying "I will not do anything to this Mustang once I get it; I am going to leave it completely stock."...and now you are painting it, getting a cowl hood, and some other goodies...hmmm I know you wouldn't be able to resist...(especially now that you have the corolla to beat the hell out of every day)...
and by the way, why isn't your fat a$$ in any of the pictures, huh?

I have to admit, I would never be able to do my own bodywork/paint because I'd be too dam picky about it and it would take me months to get everything the way you like it. That and it's fucking hard and tedious work. I have to give you credit for (don't get a swollen head ) doing it yourself...

I wish I had the tools and ability to do my bodywork myself, so that means it'll be going to a shop to get done eventually.
Yours looks like it's coming along quite nicely so far. Can't wait to see the finished product

chris, its because im taking the pictures, f*cker... no cowl hood, i was looking at changing the cowl grille to something a bit different. This painjob is just to fix what the last dumba** did before. Ive still got a long way to go, probably another set to prime, then get the car blocked out, and painted.
bullit, and silentnoise... Bodywork isnt really all that hard, its just time consuming, painstaking work. You really dont need that many tools, either. You can buy sanding blocks for about 40 bucks, and a paintgun that does a pretty good job for around 60-100 for a beginner. A set of body hammers can be had for 20 bucks on ebay. the rest is bondo and sandpaper. You would need a good compressor too, but you can buy one from harbor freight for a decent price, and then, use someone's garage, a waterhose, and some plastic sheeting, and go for it!
Ive seen backyard paintjobs turn out show quality, and seen professional jobs look like shit. One thing to remember - bodywork is all about details and good prep-work. If you can get them down, the rest just falls into place.
Thanks guys for the encouragement, and chris, thanks for your comments ;-)
one more thing... silentnoise, if you want an 86 LX bumper, ive got one for sale... cheap, too.

I've thought about the 85/86 bumper swap, and I'm on the fence about whether or not I'll actually it when the time comes.
As for the one you've got kicking around, considering you're in Starkville, Mississippi and I'm up here in Edmonton, Alberta, you really can't get much further away. There's a fair number of those things floating around here..... plus my friend's dad owns one of the salvage yards here in the city, so getting ahold of them is easy.

didnt get a lot accomplished, but did some more blocking, and gonna run second coat of primer on monday.
biggest thing im proud of is my cut and buff job on my headlights, lol
Before on left, after on right:
now both done: still gotta do some more buffing on the one on the right, which i had a hard time seeing till this photo.
They still show some light pitting... I started with 1200 grit - can anyone who's ever done this before, tell me how low i can actually go?
When im done, i actually considered using a dark charcoal stripe to stripe em like the 93 cobra, but with a twist - what do you guys think?

Hey mike, leave the paint combo the same, it was perfect that way. And as far as how low to go...I did my headlights with 800 the first time then worked my way up to 3000.

paint the gray trim around the lights and everywhere else on the car to match the darkish gray on your cobra wheels...

I see you're trying to save the hood striping, couldn't find any other for a decent price eh?

Y2E0L0L5OGWT, the charcoal that my trim was actually supposed to be is pretty close to my wheels, so that wont be a worry.
lowflyn, I will try to save it, but it wont hurt my feelings if i have to get a new one, or pain it on... All just another day, lol.
got the bumper primed, and got the car prep-sanded, all but the trim. will try to have it ready to spray either tomorrow or friday!

Well I'm hoping to make a flying trip up there this weekend, if you need a hand with anything just holla man. Gotta get my car finished first though...

finally got it painted last night... car looks really good, considering this is my first paintjob. Here are some pics i took with my cam phone last night:
All sealed up and pink!
after several coats of color, and a few coats of clear:
Look over the paint booth, I got a chance to spray it, so i jumped in the booth and got it done.
Out of all the dings and rock chips, i missed 3
still gotta get my trim/stripe painted, and reinstall everything. keep checking back - i should have it put back together sometime within the next week. There was very little trash, so i think with a good cut and buff, its gonna look great!

School and work have been kickin my ass, so ive had to take longer than i expected on the car, but 1 more buff, paint my hood stripe, then finish puttin her together, and she'll be ready to roll!
After first buff - had something in the paint booth, so we wound up buffing in the shop, where the lighting isnt as good
Many thanks to my boss, Ricky, for the help he's been - here he is running the buffer:
Some pictures from this afternoon, after a wash..
Some reflection shots:

-yeah, i know the fender isnt right... I forgot to line it up before i painted, so that will be another thing on the list.
Tryin to get her finished up by the end of the week, so keep your eyes open for some finished product shots!

thanks guys!
lowflyn... It'll probably be a while before i paint hers... shes got to have the time and funds to do it, as well as for me to have time - this is the LAST time i take on a project like this during the semester - my grades have suffered, lol. Think we'll do a color change on hers - black with a red hood stripe, and some black pony wheels - kinda the "anti" version of my car. I'll keep you guys posted, though
SilentNoise, im actually considering it, I just wonder how its gonna look with all the charcoal accents (trim, antenna delete plate, cowl grille, etc.) What do you guys think?

So, does that rust treatment really work??? Just asking because I have some rust spots that were covered up well when I bought my Stang I have now & I really need to do something about it...no $$$ to take it to a real shop...OH, I figured out long ago, there are no real shops around here

Thanks, silverstangboy and mustangblondie!
So far so good... what kind of rust do you have, and where? This is pretty much to kill rust after you've gotten down to good metal. In my opinion, the best way to fix heavy rust is to install moremetal - weld in patch plates or install new parts, etc. If its just some light rust, you should be able to use this stuff... Hope this helps!

All kinds of rust unfortunately. I took care of the real light stuff. I have some rust on my quarter panels & one isn't looking good, so I know I can't use it for that. I have paint raising up from rust here & there on the car, looks like I can fix that, that's why I was asking...although I will have to replace the hatch & pass door. I don't know how they covered it so well before I bought it. Sad thing is that I love the car, without all the problems & more that I've dealt with
Yea, I fall in love with my Stangs, But I think I'm on the right forums for that...

Hey guys, sorry for the long wait for an update... Its been hectic, and school just finished, so i was able to make some progress.
Here are a few pics - not great ones, so keep your eyes open for some really stunning ones, as soon as the weather settles!

^^^^^^^^ Look over the water spots - was trying to rain as i rushed my clean (freshly waxed too!) car somewhere i could get some pictures!
Again, I am so sorry for the quality, but the rain has been coming and going so much that its hard to keep up!
Thanks again for all your words and thoughts!
Any words of advice/criticism/worship welcomed :p
before any flaming starts, the car is far from perfect, but is much, much cleaner than it was IMO. Not bad for a first timer, anyway.
