So one of my neighbors got messed over kinda dirty. Paid 2,000 for some stereo stuff and install and it came out really shitty. The box they made for him was 1/2" MDF but stapled and siliconed together, when he turned up the bass the rear split off. he was running 3 12" Punch P3 and some 1000w no-name amp, with a setup kinda like im doing, however they used basically carpet wrapped around cardboard to do all the nice finish pieces. turned out looking like shit, however he basically came out even when you take into account the cost of all the shit they installed right (rear 15" LCD, pioneer in-dash DVD, console mounted EQ, price for the 3 subs and amps).
I couldnt let him show off a nice Impala with a shitty speaker setup like that. told him he can pay for parts needed and get me a 10" Punch P3 and a ~500w amp and we would call it a day.
Thus far its taken about 2 months, we work on it about once a week after work (we both have retarded schedules). we would get home about 6ish and get to work about 7pm after eating whatever, do a few cuts, fab up a bracket or two and call it a night, not productive at all but its not a project we are going to rush. Saturday i finally said "fuck it", got up at 9am, called his ass up like "dude, bring me your car, im gonna get some shit finally done" got my side panels fabbed and mounted, did my returns (top corners of the front piece that covers the box), got vinyl at around noon-ish, came home, got sidetracked from the woman coming over but got back to work later and this is how far i got this weekend. Hoping to work on it a little later this week and wire the amps by the weekend. His new amps are 1 1500w Precision Power for the 3 subs, and 1 500w Precision Power for the interior speakers. Yes i know its upside down and off-center, this was his decision, IMO i wanted to stash it but he wanted them both layed out, and PPI does not make a crossover piece (like zabco, rockford fosgate, kenwood, etc) does, and since they are different lengths, he didnt mind if the center of the amps are off-center with the rest of the stuff, so i guess this will have to work, if he's happy i guess it doesnt matter really what i think.
i think im going to start looking for a small 800-1200sf shop, everyone is telling me im in the wrong business, that i should be doing this stuff for a living. from what im hearing, something i am doing for uber cheap a standard stereo shop would charge upwards of 2-3000$ for a insall of this nature, even more for Fiberglass (IE when i had the eclipse back seat enclosure they were telling me minimum for custom fiberglass starts at 2000$ a project, something i did they were saying almost 5,000$)

finally getting around to finishing it up, the guy is so hard to get him to bring his car over, ill be like "yeah dude tomorrow i wanna work on it" and tomorrow comes and hell be in the bay or some shit, so i usually end up doing it a few hours once a week after work, which sucks, you get into it and into the zone and its bedtime, and youve only done a few things.
anyways, everything is all ready. tomorrow (hopefully) i can hook up the amps, all the wires are run and tucked under the amps just waiting. should be fun to finally hear it, should sound alot better than what the shop did for him with a stapled-together-sealed-with-silicone box he had before, to one thats now airtight and built like a freaking tank.
plus now that his is done, he can buy my setup (10" Punch w/ decent amp) so i can finally get some bass.
