I purchased, basically, this CAI. I have a 98 V6....... what the HELL? This thing came with no instructions and it doesnt look like it'll fit any which way... I am so confused
I did a Google search on "98 mustang cold air installation" and was glad that the picture of that CAI was the first thing to pop up considering thats exactly what i have.
This question was probably asked 540 times already, but I have searched the forums and even clicked on the CAI install links and it just brings me back to the main page. Could anyone help? I'd appreciate it alot! Thanks

PM Kyle about his...have him get you a pic of it installed....it isn't nearly as tough as you would think...and once you see a pic you should be able to figure it out pretty quickly. Granted, his is a 2004, but, same engine and everything so it won't matter.
I'm going to see if I have a pic of his car with the hood up...but his motor is dirty, so he doesn't take many of the motor.

Ok man, what you have there is your typical fenderwell cai kit. The pipe with the blue pieces on it connect to your throttle body and your MAF. The MAF must be pulled off of your factory air intake system, it's towards the front, right behind your current filter. You will need to pull out your factory air intake and unplug the harness.
Once you have this system out, unhook the air filter end and set it aside. If you look into the tube now you will see a screen and a small black plastic piece sticking into the tube. There are 4 bolts holding the MAF onto the factory intake, remove these 4 bolts and hold onto them.
Once you have seperated the MAF from the factory intake you can begin piecing together the new intake. First, connect the filter and the larger pipe together with that bracket piece inbetween. You will use one of the clamps on this. Now, bolt the MAF onto the pipe using the 4 bolts, you will want to reuse the metal screen in this process as well. Also, use the gasket supplied inbetween the MAF and the piping. Make sure you face this piece correctly so you can plug it back in (the plug side facing the filter side). Next, connect the upper piping to the rest of the system using another clamp.
Finally, after you have all this assembled, put it in the engine bay, carefully putting the filter side in the fenderwell first. Once you have this piece in, you can work on connecting the upper end of the piping to your throttle body, using another clamp on this piece.
Once you have all this connected you can hook the vacuum lines you unhooked back into this CAI and then plug the MAF connector back in. You will also want to attach the bracket piece onto the fender using the factory bolt.

94-98 intakes are different, i think, than 99-04
but the way it looks in the pic is the way its installed. put that flat metal piece after the filter. that will be against the hole from your engine to fenderwell. that other metal piece with the two blue rubber things on it hook from that other metal tube to the throttle body, with that gasket in between both tubes.
the metal fasteners are for holding it all together.........its really not hard

It goes from throttle body to fender wall...it is no different just different shaped pipes. It is the same as your kit.

Right, but only because the pipes are shaped a touch different...the rest is all the same....and the install is identical.

You have to bolt the factory MAF inbetween the two tubes, otherwise they would make it one big tube.
Look, there in the picture you posted, it's a MAF
