So for payment for me making my buddy's Impala rear trunk box, i told him if he can get me a decent sub/amp combo we would be even (i didnt want to charge him even that, but he insists)
So i was thinking 1 RockfordFosgate Punch P3 10" in a RF box, with a decent 500w Class-D amp (probably RF as well). shouldnt cost him more than 150-200$ if hes the "dealmaker" he says he thinks he is, however he did get hooked up huge for his current setup so i dunno.
just need a little bit of deep bass. i was fucking with the deck i have now (some high end Alpine model from a few years back) and got some bass out of the speakers (almost sounds like stock bass levels now) which leads me to believe there are not bass-blockers as i had originally though, even though the mid-high speakers external amp (this model apline deck has no internal amp) is running on full mode, if i switch to high pass (mids and highs only using the amps internal crossover) it still sounds the same.

if he can get a 500watt rf p3 setup in a box for 200 let me know... wat kind of amp are u using to push ur highs... if all else fails run to walmart and pick up a set of bass blockers, they are around $20 for 4

RF amp for under $200? I feel like you will have a hard time finding that since RFs are overpriced even if they are some of the best out there. Buet eh, I don;t know what shops you got out there.

before i went with the AudioBahn 12"/1300W amp combo in the GT i was offered a deal for a 500w Kenwood amp and the 10" Punch P2 in the RF Ported Enclosure for 250$ I thought the 10" in the RF Ported box sounded pretty loud for just a single 10, it was tight and deep which is how i want, however since i wanted a more flashy look for the GT, i went with the Audiobahn. I think tomorrow i will take a ride down to some of the audio shops and see what they got going on.
The guy who im doing the Impala enclosure from has a fat hookup it seems. 3 12" RockfordFosgate P3 subs, 1 1500w Precision Power amo, 1 500w Precision power amp (for mid-high's), 15" LCD flipdown for the back seats, center console EQ and flip out Alpine in-dash DVD, all for around $2K. after checking price, the alpine unit alone was 1000$, each P3 is roughly 230$ and the flip down LCD should be around 300$, cant find much on those amps other than the company made amps for the last generation (Before our generation of products), went under, and is now back again making amps. the only reason im re-doing his setup is the last setup was done by a shop and it looked like someones first attempt at a box.

Speaking of botched jobs I had to clean one up today. Kid's friend put in a pair of JL's and a RF amp in, remote wire was just hanging out along the base line and over the guys seat belt, wires everywhere in the back, things just taped up. He brought it in cause it stopped working. The other guy just like taped it on and left, wire were hanging off and shit. He had to use a hi-lo converter, it was a fuckin' mess man.
It's unbelievable though at all the other "professional" install places around here how many of them do such bad jobs that I/we wind up cleaning up.

werd. i have to admit though, the previous owner had some shop do his speaker/amp install on the cobra (they are Pyle speakers with a PrecisionPower 200w amp) and its a really good install.

k so i just got back from the local shop, i can do either 65$ for a P1 10", 95$ for a P2 10", and 65$ for a 250x2 (500x1 bridged) amp. they have no more of the RF Ported boxes, but i found a few of them online, and Crutchfield has them as well.

yeah however i wasnt planning on doing much with the setup. those RF Ported boxes are really nice, make a single 10" sound as deep as 2 12's. i was thinking on putting the RF box in the middle, making two panels off to the side to give it a flush look, build a fake floor (i dont have a spare so its no biggie) and stick the amp in the center under a nice piece of beveled plexiglass with the cobra emblem engraved and illuminated and call it a day. keep it simple and light.

speaking of no spare tire. I just had a CRAZY idea. fiberglas the spare tire area for a box for a shollow mount 10 or 12 right there in the spare tire area. wouldnt be ported though.

it would be pretty hard, not to mention the floor piece would have to be one piece construction, and getting something like that in and out of the car would be very difficult. Plus its not something i think i would do to the Cobra without careful and long consideration. not to say i havent thought about the possibilities, but i have other things in mind first.........
besides, i did the whole fiberglass speil on my GST My Newest Project "Eclipse GST", i love working with it, its fun as hell, but time consuming and i dunno, i dont really like the end result as much as a few clean padded and vinyl'd panels. i love what i just did to my buddy's impala, turned out awesome Side Project for Neighbor . i did this with my 02 GT 2002 Black on Black GT 5spd.

well its all in. pretty simple. thankfully the shop that did the first amp install for the first owner included a distribution box for the power already; all i did was hook another 4ga wire up to it and to my amp. made a new ground for the amp and that was it. ran new rca's and that was done. mounted amp to the back of the box, installed sub, and mounted the box to the car. took me about 2 hours because i had to get some more HDR (Home Depot Racing) bracket strap thingies to mount the box.
sounds great. just what i wanted, not too much but definately helps the low end quite a bit. i did max it out to see what it could do, and it hits pretty hard. i love it because its very removeable, two metal screws hold the straps to the top of the trunk roof sheetmetal and thats that.
However; since i do not have a spare, next year i will probably toy more with the idea of a permanent enclosure. just a simple raised faux floor with the sub and amp built-in and flush-mounted. probably bet a Kicker 4ch amp to match and ditch the PrecisionPower one i have now. God i hate their proprietary clip designs they use, nifty idea for power/gnd so you can detach power and ground without worrying about shorting, but not for speakers. wrapped in the matching carpeting. clean and light.
