I got the Transformer's HD-DVD for my b-day only to find out I too need a player. I haven't began to look but the time is near.

Doesn't cost like $800, either. Or even $500, or whatever a PS3 costs, if you're one of those people. I'm not ready to get into the game, yet...but that one would do everything I would need it to do.

Except play HD-DVD's the way they are meant to be played, at 1080P lol. You might not have a 1080P TV now but paying an extra 100 dollars for 1080P support and HDMI 1.3a would be well worth it imo.

I looked at buying that HD-DVD player but didn't want to waste 200 dollars on it when in 6 months you'll be able to get an HD-DVD player that plays at 1080P for 250 at most.

He speaks the truth. Wth entertainment products, especially now, it pays to get the best available at the time. It's what will last you the longest and keep you from having to invest in something else too soon.

But the cost of the player is insignificant in comparison with the power of the for....uh...price of the television. If you've already got a 720p or 1080i HDTV, why not? Are you just going to throw away your TV that you probably paid $1000 (or better) for and then bitch about the $200 player when you get a new TV? What you'll most likely do is buy another TV, probably a real big 1080p panel (because they'll be cheaper in a few years), move your 720p TV into another room and move the player with it. Then you'll buy an HD-DVD or BluRay (or maybe one that does both) player for the new TV. Hopefully they'll be as cheap as DVD players by then.
