Today when I pulled into my parking spot at work as soon as I put the car into park (before shutting it off) the coolant began to smoke and come out of the hood, mainly on the drivers side. I turned the car off after backing it up a tad (i was over the curb and thought I might have hit something on accident). I looked under the car's front bumper and didnt notice anything~
I poped the hood and the spew seemed to have started on the bottom right side (there are some hoses down there) I hope its not a head gasket but by the looks its something else as there was a ton of coolant on the bottom right.
How do I need to go about driving the car if its low or has no coolant? I do NOT want to damage it~ todays temps are going to be 70~ I have heard you can drive a bit and watch the temp and stop and let it cool off as you reach 200 degrees or so~ and continue doing that. I am 7 miles from home (interstate) or 8 miles back roads.
input?

Uhm...run the heater and take your time..you should be fine going back to the house in it. As far as what it is...check all the hoses first, push on them, crimp them, see if there are any cracks in it.

Was it bottom right (driver's side) as in 'looking towards the back of the car' or bottom right as in passenger side? (looking towards the front of the car )
If it was on the drivers side .. that's where mine failed, my radiator blew out...
and as per driving it home.. remember that the temp gauge won't quite respond right if there's no coolant in the block...

Yeah, I was gong to say, it measures coolant temps so if there is no coolant is will pretty much be measuring it's surrounding atmosphere.
For just 7 miles you should be fine, if you go back roads, do you have to stop and start a lot? I ask because a lot of acceleration will make it unhappy. If you go interstate, don't go to far above 2k if you can help it.

If it's low on coolant, top it off with tap-water until you get it back to the house. You certainly aren't going to want to run it dry.

It will probably leak right out though is the only thing.

Depending on how bad the leak is... it might get him back to the house. Better than starting off dry, anyway.

I am pretty sure its a hose leak so I am going to pop a new one on and put coolant in it and it hopefully will be good.
