I want to flush the coolant system in the stang becuase it has 72,000 on it and has never had one to my knowledge. I am confused though. Haynes repair manual says to take out the drain plugs in the block as well as the one on the radiator. Is this necessary? Also, I bought radiator flush to put in as well, is this safe?? What is the best way to make sure I am getting the right 50/50 mix of antifreeze/water?? Any help would be appreciated, I don't want to break anything and I've never done this before. Thanks!

It depends no how you wish to go about it. You can drain just the radiator and change about 2 gallons of it~ There will still be some left in the system.

Since your car has NEVER had it changed (which is not good) you can pull the plugs on each side of the block and rain more of it. I would do this. The only downside is getting the air out of the system. You can get a shop to vacuum the system and suck the coolant back into the engine and this works very well~ but you will be paying for a coolant change at a shop. I would flush it out as well with some distilled water before putting new coolant in it.

Run the 50/50 premix that mixes with any coolant type. DO NOT put tap water in your engine. You can rinse it out with it if you must but dont let it stay in there.

And that right there is what pisses me off so bad about 90% of the customers that come into my store.

"Bah I don't want that premix shit! That's stuff shit and I'm not paying extra when I can just stick a hose in my radiator!"

Freaking idiots.
