Spacer question...

I want to get some spacers to push out the rear wheels a bit and get somewhat even with the fronts. I was talking to a tech guy on StangSuspension.com and I have to look to see if there is a void or if the studs are flat against the wheel holes. I think I know what he means but I wanted to see if anyone knows if I used a 1 inch spacer would I have to cut the stock studs or if I used a 1 1/2 inch would the wheel sit flush with the spacer or rest on the spacer studs. Thanks.

If you get bigger than a 3/8 spacer you will need to get longer studs put on. If you use 3/8 you will need to atleast get extended lugnuts. I would recommend adding longer studs with any stacer though and just cut the ends off your lugnuts.

I would use an adapter instead of a spacer, they are MUCH safer.

The need for longer studs beyond a 3/8 spacer is not entirely true. It depends on the spacer design. I have a 1.25 spacer on the back wheels on my stang and they did not require longer studs. They are of a very high quality and are centric type. Mine came with fairly deep recessed holes to allow for stock studs. The other thing is I got mine from a 4X4 place. They are heat treated aluminum and if they can withstand hard core 4X4 use they can withstand anything I dish out in my Mustang.

Hub centric is the way to go Do not get the flat kind w/holes, they put too much pressure and stress on the studs I have stangsuspension's 1" spacers (#SSWS25) and like them alot. You need to take off and look at the back of your rim and check to see if there is a space/void between the holes or if its just flat. If you get 1" spacers your studs are going to stick out alittle, thus the need for the small space between the holes on the back of your rims. If they are flat/smooth you're going to need to cut the tips off your studs. Not sure if its 1.25 or 1.30 but one of them will fit perfectly without having to cut your studs if your rims are flat on the back. I have 99Cobras and they have the little indent on the back so I didn't have to cut mine . I wouldn't go with spacers larger than 1.25 - 1.30, I'd look at new rims first
