I just bought a 1996 3.8 V6 and it is stock, because of which it has terrible pick-up. What can I do that's moderatly cost efficent to increase my acceleration?

Ring and pinion? Do you know the stock rear-gear ratio?

My comment was a joke btw...
But, the best way to improve your pickup would be with a set of gears.
If you have an auto I'd recommend 4.10's and 3.73's if you have a manual. That and a traction lock and you'll be set for a while.

if you decide to sell it, getting a 99 v-6 will improve speed quite a bit... though a '96 GT will have roughly similar speed to the 99 v-6 (of course the GT is still faster, especially the manual), but the '99 GT would be hands above all others I mentioned. enjoy

He just bought the car, I doubt he wants to sell it quite yet...
There is alot you can do to the car, just depends on your budget. Look to spend 500-600 dollars total to change the gears in your rear end but this will be your best mod for the money. Exhaust will make it more enjoyable to drive because of the sound but not really make it any faster.
If you've got a little money ready to invest in the car, changing from a single port setup to a split port setup will really help wake the car up. This one costs quite a bit but is worth it for a pre-99 IMO

2.73 -> 3.73 will be a night and day difference. You're not going to go out and dust the doors of any GTs, or anything, but the car will at least be able to get out of its own way.

99+ v6's come with 3.27's. they also make 3.08 and 3.55 for a 8.8 rear end which come in the gt.

As far as recommending gears, get FRPP gears, these are ford racing gears and are nomally better spec'd.
And by split port what I'm talking bout is 99 + v6 mustangs have a split port intake setup and different heads that flow much better and make better power. You basically have to tear down the top half of the engine and replace it all.

I only read some of this, saw people telling you about gears.
I was told, and I'm not sure if it was posted above, only read a few posts.. that if I should also get rear posi if I were going to get gears.
So look into that aswell.
Or just hope you bump into n00bs when you're driving like the 350Z I came across last night missing gears and shit.. lawl.
