Okay if you don't know yet that I'm gonna sell the my baby (tear) and buy a GT you're either 1) new here (Hello) 2) Not paying attention to me (what the hell could be more important? ... Right, NOTHING!) or 3) Getting overwhelmed by the number of threads lately and not reading them all. But yeah, I'm going to sell the stang and get a GT. I figure I can afford it now and if I'm gonna have a performance car, then damnit I'm gonna have a performance car. I haven't looked too much into it yet as I don't plan on buying until the 2005's come out and used GT prices come down. But this is for me to ask questions as I get ready to do it and for you guys to comment and ask questions from me. I want a car with a decent number of miles, not something that will break anytime soon. I want a nice paint job, no major defects whatsoever. I want a convertible, it's soooo worth the extra weight and instability. I want leather.
First:
1) a. What are your general recommendations as to what I buy and from whom? And why? Support your position with verifiable stats. Or respected opinions.
b. I want a SN95, do you think I should get a 4.6 or 5.0?
2) Color? Paint, interior, and top.
3) Any v8 boards you guys like that I should start paying attention to?
4) What do you think I should do? With this car, everything I do will be the last mod of it's type. For example I'm not gonna do half-ass mods. My audio will only be replaced if it breaks. I'm not gonna do a better exhaust later. What do you guys think I should first in regards to this? Immediate rebuild with performance parts? chassis work?
I'm wanna get my plans down now so as I see deals or anything between now and next year, I can take advantage of them and not worry I'll change anything and it won't fit. I can wait to buy until I really see a car I want at the price I want.

F*CK the GT... for pretty much the same price get the cobra.. that 32V engine is soo much sweeter...
Cobra insurance is less than GT insurance
Cobra is cooler than GT
99+ Cobra
Any color because it's a Cobra
Convertible Cobra is a major Attention Whore car
Before you disregard this just think..
You own a V6, and want a GT... GT Guys want Cobras... Cobra guys want Rubicons
Go big, do it once do it right..
Why settle for a middle of the road car that won't give you the performance you want?
Cobra
Cobra
Cobra
Cobra

I sorta agree with Ken. If you're going ohc, go dohc if at all possible. Preferably, stay pushrod and get a 94-95 5.0 or a fox. Cheap, effective performance.

go cobra.
if your stuck with a Gt, avoid 96-98.
gears, exhaust, cai, pulleys, slicks, suspension, boost will be your friends. Not many people mod the engine of a OHC v8.

i dont know just get the cobra engine and a cobra body kit and the cobra paint(red) and call it a day. all for less than you would pay for a real cobra. unless youre a fanatic who must have the real deal. i was gonna put a cobra engine in the tbird till i got sick of the land yacht.

a n/a (non supercharged) cobra (99-2002) makes 385 hp. the supercharged 5.4 cobras (newer ones) makes 390 hp. so it takes ford slapped on a blower and bored out the engine to 5.4 and got 5 hp outta it. lol. if you swap the engine though you gotta do hella other shit that might not be worth the hassle if youre not a very good mechanic and dont know your shyt. if you wanna swap some engines i can help you, im 20 minutes away........

I'm not quite sure on your 99-02 specs there..
I think they are 320, not 385..
But, 320 without a blower.. It will take a little pocket change to get the GT up to those points.
GT is a Single OverHead cam, 16V engine.. Cobra is a double overhead cam 32V engine.
GT is a solid rear axle, Cobra is IRS
More people drive GT's, more young people, so they get in more accidents and have more claims than Cobras, which drives the rates up on them.
I was looking into a cobra last year and the insurance jump from my V6 was going to be $5 a month. Granted, it's a different situation for everyone, but if you are going to make the investment, the Cobra Engine (4.6L that is) is soooo much nicer.
I have no idea what makes a 5.0GT different from a 5.0Cobra though

True that donkey. Keep him straight. 5.4 is offered only in Cobra R, Lightning, and F150. Not in any other mustang. All mustangs in production at the moment either have the 3.8 (232) or the 4.6 (289). It's just they just now started supercharging cobras.
