I have a thought about sub placement!

I have recently come in the possession of some nice Alpine stuff. several thouand dollars worth of equipment including, top of the line headunit, 2 amps, 2 tweeters, 4-5 1/4 component mid speakers, 2 coaxials 5 1/4 speakers, 2 10in bass subwoofers all the wiring, crossovers, remotes.

I am really looking into mounting the subs below the rear seats in the panel between the seats and the floor. I use my trunk all the time and any sub mounted in the trunk is not acceptable. So I have seen this done before but never heard how they sound. Any heard subs mounted this way?

If you are leaving the seats in I don't see how this is possible. The main problem I see is this is a structural part of the car, so any cutting or modifying there will have to be strengthened somewhere else. Not only that but the seats fit all the way down in that space leaving you with no air space for a normal sub...

To be honest corey I'd look into a way of doing custom mounting in the trunk to take up minimal space. I had an idea on the trunk that I may pursue again putting the subs in a non-use location behind the side panels in the trunk. There is a space large enough I know for a 10 on each side and I might work on that again to see what I come up with.

Not exactly, there isn't that space there like on the S197's. As close as you can get to that is something like I did on my car.

I don't see much options for him then. I can't imagine it fitting under the seats.

About 2 years ago I saw it done on a car featured in a magazine. I kept the mag but I have been unable to find it. It looked really good. I do remember he had made an metal ring that mounted on the inside of the lower seat panel that the sub mounted to. This beefed up the structure. I was going to get a Infinity Basslink and be done with it. But these Alpine speakers kind of came as a windfall so I though why not use them.

Damn your good That is what I have been thinking all along but the idea of hidden subs with only a amp in the trunk is also quite cool in my mind. I wish I could find someone who has done it. If I coul only find the magazine I saw it in.

Really I am very pleased with my 6X9's in the rear deck. People are always looking for a sub in my trunk but my friend chad raised the bar on me and put a big ass sub in his car and it thumps like a bastard. The thing is he has all walmart bought pioneer speakers, head unit and some rather large subs being pushed by a very large but cheap amp. The clarity is less than stellar but it makes your heart stop. On the other hand my Clarion Pro Audio Head unit and all Infinity Reference speakers and Nice Profile amp are vastly superior in clarity and he even admits it but it is missing the intense deep bass. That will change BY GOD!!

dude... if you think you have space issues in your trunk try mine lol.... if you figure out how to do that with the sub let me know... cause it might be something i might consider

Are you sure you can't make a Mach 1000 audio system work?
