MIL P1414, rough idle

Started car and went to nearby store (from school). Came out of store, started car and got: Rough idle, half-lit turn signal indicator on the dash. Weirder was that the headlights were half-lit, and the headlight switch was off! MIL is now on, and I'll bet it's P1414 (Secondary Air Injection monitor high). Idle straightened itself out, and no drivablity issues afterward (yet).

The last thing I did was change sparkplugs and wires, but that was on Sat. This thing happened on Tues night.

Anyone know where the SAI monitor is? So I can at least eyeball it.
Better yet, does anyone have wiring diagrams that I can look at?



PS: This happened once before back in August. I couldn't find anything, mechanics didn't return my calls, and nothing more happened, so I just chalked it up to sleeping gremlins.

the A.I.R system is in your passenger side fenderwell. Do you have a CAI?

You probably noticed the thing while you tried to put your filter on. Its oh-so conveniantly right in your way.

ok; yeah, I traced the hose from the valve to the edge of the engine bay; it's raining, so I won't be able to get to it today.

Any ideas on the rest of the electrical problems? Why would my headlamps go half bright? Bad relay? Alien abduction? Phantom voltage on the switch? It bothers me that the problem might be bigger than the SAI sensor.

Resolution (so far):
Broke down, and took it to Portsmouth Ford. Headlight/turn signal turned out to be a bad ground connection (my fault.)

The EEC code is a bad SAI pump

those pumps will occasionally throw a code if they get water in them, or theres a leak in the tube to the EGR valve.

check the hoses out, reset the eec/code, and see if it comes back.

Checked the tubes(that's how I got the pic) found nothing that stood out at me.
According to paperwork, "Pinpoint test found pump motor no good." Would water or a leak cause motor failure?

water yes. Its actually described in the Ford CD Manual as a posible cause, and to check for it.

To test if your pump is dead, disconnect the one hose going to the EGR, and start the car.

The pump only works on startup, so youll hear a nice loud whistle. You can probably hop out of the car and feel the air coming out of the tube.

If there is air, check for a leak.

The purpose of the pump is to cause the H02 sensors to run lean at startup, by pumping unmetered air into your headers. If the 02's dont read lean within like a few seconds, the code is thrown. So any leaks in the lines that may steal air from the 02 sensors will cause this, as well as a bad/dieing pump.
