Ok, this has GOT to be a screw up! I need an ignition key for the car and the boys at Ford said it was $130!!! What the F---? You got to be kiddin' me... Does anyone have a fix for this mess?
If your car has the PATS system you have to get it programmed...hence the charge from Ford. There is a way to program it yourself but you would still have to buy a key that fits the ignition with the chip in it.

yeah, what he said. the PATs system will need to be coded with the new key, so you either pay the dealership for them to do it, take it a locksmith that can do it for about $70 or so, or if your car is a 96-early 98 model, buy the key off ebay and do it yourself via this method:
