Does anyone know why only in the winter when i start my car it makes a kinda grinding noise like the starter is sticking? It used to do it on my '96 but i totaled it before i could find out
Does it only happen when its really cold? like below 20? the lube that helps keep it move smoothly may be freezing somewhat... esp if the starter's been on a while.. not sure what would help it though, my regal does the same thing now and again

Mine does that all the time when it's about 20 deg. It's been doing that since I got it.

Its usually around that 25 degree mark or below that its really noticable. I'd say thats a reasonable explanation because it doesnt seem to do it after i drive it for a while. I've got about 65k on it so im gonna guess the starter probably hasnt been changed yet.
hopefully it's just the cold! it sounds like it's pretty common. i live in IA and i don't hear this with mine, but i know it hates the cold.
