Hi. I just joined this site today and don't know too much about it. I am hoping to find out a few things about performance options for my 2003 Mustang. It is a Mustang Bullitt Clone, so I get plenty of racing opportunities on the street, but I lack in horsepower and torque seeing as my Mustang has a 3.8L V6. So does anybody know some of the best ways of increasing horsepower and torque without emptying my bank account?

Thanks. But why a 3.73 for manual and a 4.10 for an auto? What would be the downfall of using a 3.73 for an auto?

It would not be as noticeable of a gain with the 3.73 on the auto as the 4.10s...

gears/tlok wont add any tq but it will make it feel like it sure did.

I am not exactly sure, but like MonteCitan said, you won't feel it as much. My guess is the gearing difference in the T5 and AODE transmission.

the reason we say 4.10s for an auto is because the auto's gears are not as good as the manuals so by stepping it up a bit higher you help even it out overall

What's your budget? Emptying your back account could mean you're a millionaire and you only wanna spend $10K. But if you can afford it, stroke that badboy to a 4.2 or 4.3L, that will increase your torque by a crap load. I have extensive mods on my car, but i'm pushing about 260bhp & 320btq. That's alot from the 150bhp & 210btq that came stock. But either way to get power it's going to cost money and you WILL have to crack open your engine and modify the intakes, heads, and cam if you wish to see any good numbers, unless you go blown or spray of course. But even then a blower will run $2,000 easily and Nitrious will run bout $700 for the kit and you will have to refill it consistantly.

The auto has only 4 gears with a 2.77 1st gear and the manuals are 5 speeds with a 3.35 1st gear.

there are many variations of t-5s but overall the gearing is better in the manual~ thus you get more tq amplification vs an auto so raising the gears helps get you back up there.

I have a 99 auto with 373 gears. What difference can I expect if I install a t-lock ???

a t-lok would give you posi-traction. Basicly you can call it your differential. Right now if you have a 7.5" rear and it's stock other than the gears, you have a open differential. So only you right rear tire spins. But with a t-lok, their is a "S" shaped spring in the differential that applies some of the load to both rear tires. This isn't really going to help power wise, but it will allow you to have quicker and straighter launches if you're racing, but off the track, it gives you better traction over-all.
