THat looks a bit longer than 4" to me....or did you but the 3' piece and cut it down to 4" just to install on the folds?
Where did you get the aluminum from? And the velcro? In total, how much was it? How did you attach the velcro to the boot?
Also, man, your's is bowed up a ton more than mine does. Think I might do this shortly so I can get some good picks without the top hardware showing.

Sorry I meant 4 feet. Its easier to adjust side to side with the longer peice. You can add more Velcro as well in the middle if needed. The 4ft piece fits perfectly side to side.
Home depot. They had 6 feet and 4 feet piece and the 6 feet one was WAY to long. The Velcro is from Wal Mart. It was Industrial Strength. It says not to use with fabrics but it holds very good on the boot's fabric. I put the fabric side of the Velcro on the boot so it blends more and the plastic part on the metal.
It didnt cost much, 8 bucks for the aluminum piece and 6 bucks maybe for the Velcro. I also picked up a roll of electrical tap and wrapped the bar to keep it from potentailly tearing the fabric that it sits on top of while under the boot.
It just stuck right on there. You can see in the pictures the exact area I put it in. The reason I have two pieces on each side is due to the bend there. I didn't want the Velcro to go across the bend so it can still be folded up without any issues. I let it sit for a full day to fully adhere. It seems to stick very good on it. Its a tight fit.
When I put it on I sit bar on the boot and fold the sides up. (So a bit of the bar stick out un-Velcro'ed where the seem is). Then I sit the boot on the car and tuck in one side then I tuck in the other. It wont be flat yet, it will have humps in it. Before I try and fix them I make sure the middle plastic piece is in its groove and button the snaps on both sides. I then raise up the boot (just where the humps are to separate the Velcro) and pull off the bar from the boot's Velcro. I push the boot flat and re stick it to remove the hump so its nice and flat.. I do this for the other side and I am done. To get it off you just pull it up. It comes right off. I try to be careful with the Velcro so it wont start to come off the boot (just to be safe).
Also to help with the fitting you can bend the boot a little bit at the seem where the Velcro will go. It bows there so I flattened it out as good as I could. It helped it out a little bit.

Hm...definitely something I'll have to look into, the stock boot is still folded up in the trunk right now...

the way it folds, backwards, is what makes it bow out~ and fit even worse.

The fact that it is folded means you must do this. The only way to prevent the messed up gaps is to keep it unfolded from delivery on...those that have stored theirs in a constant state of unfolded-ness, have not had the issues.

I flattened mine out and it fit much better, but not perfect. After leaving it unfolded though it started to bow back again... after keeping it flat with weights on it for a full week.

Right, but those that haven't had issues are the ones that did it from the first day the car came off the truck...once it gets some age on it folded, it never goes back....no matter what you do.
I'm going to break mine out and do get it prepped for this mod.....will be nice to use it...and then be able to use it when playing around like last night.

Well mine is sitting out now to start the flattening process. Plan on running by a hardware store somewhere and picking up a piece of aluminum now.
