Hey guys im new to the forum and was wondering what mods i would need to put on my v6 stang to get it at 250hp and maybe a little more.
Right now i have a drop in k&n air filter and and flowmaster true dual 40s.
BTW how much hp do you think i have at the engine now? Stock it had 190hp i believe.

how much money you got?
its not an easy road to follow, especially if you are trying to stay n/a.
for a n/a combo:
Heads
Cams
full exhaust
gears
tune
Automatic or Manual?
now if you add boost its alot easier to make those numbers, especially if you go turbo. however if you cant make your own turbo kit, it could get costly, i think DarkShadow spent something like 2-3K for his turbo kit but has some respectable numbers, as have many other turbocharged V6 stangers.

i used to know who sold what years ago, there were a few head/cam vendors, now i think theres just SuperSix Motorsports that does stuff for the 3.8 crowd. however im sure someone still in the know will chime in soon enough.
as for ecu "chips" or tuning, its best to stick to what your local tuner is capable of using. you can get a hand-held programmer like the Diablo Predator or SCT Xcal2 and do it yourself, though those are pretty vague as far as end-user tuneability. they do however help quite a bit with programming automatics to shift firmer, faster, different rpm's and loads, etc so this might be a route you can take.
Stock ignition system is perfectly fine. when you are at the power level to where your rpm starts to break up up top due to spark blowout or the such, then its time to upgrade, but for n/a applications this will likely not be an issue.

Thank you for the help. but since i can only buy a part at a time what do you think of underdrive pulleys or a brand new throttle body. Or would there be a better mod after exhaust and intake (since i already have those).

the best bang for your buck mod is rear gears. pullies are a waste and could have side-effects, same with throttle bodies.
get some 3.73's or 4.1's (especially for an auto) and a handheld tuner to change the automatic shift properties and compensate for the gears. this will cost in total around 800$ but be more of a difference than most of the smaller boltons combined.

gears dont increase power output by the engine, they basically change your final gearing ratio which in turn changes the torque multiplication factor. this is hard to explain, but basically you are in essence making the car almost lighter by increasing the amount of torque multiplication. the face that you would be doing a handheld at the same time and adding its given performance tune at the same time might yeild you a few ponies, but nothing spectacular. however the feel of your car will be vastly different with a set of 4.1's and firmer shifts.

4.10's made a my 6er feel like a totally new stang. Sadly, the best way to do it, is just to save up all the money you would spend on mods, wait a year to save up and trade in on a GT.

lol now now. why would he do that when he could wait two years and buy a 03/04 Cobra!
you can make some decent numbers and quite a peppy little 6er if you have the funds. you can also make quite a little beast and scare even stock 03/04 Cobra guys if you go turbo, but you need quite the mod list and support for that.

yea its sad to say, but is the truth.lol
Thats true and I thought about saying the same thing, but it sounds like he might be 16/17ish so insurance would rock him where the sun don't shine if he got a cobra.
And I agree bout the 6er scaring the cobras, but for the money, your better off starting with a corba.

There are many ways to go with a V6, they are a very versital motor. They make really good Hp and TQ at the wheels with the right mods, but you really need to know the combinations that work.
There are three really good vendors for this and they are:
1. super six mortor sports
2. Redline performance
3. delk performance
You can go naturally aspirated..Heads, Cam, and P/Ped upper lower intakes
I did rather well with a bolt-on set up, my base HP @ the wheels was 147. After the bolt-on set up which was:
Engine:
1. Underdrive Pulleys
2. BBK Cold Air w/t Upgraded MAF Housing <70mm>
3. MAC Long Tube Headers w/t cats cut out and True Dual Exhaust
4. 180 Degree Thermostat
5. Port and polished Upper intake
6. 70mm Throttle Body
DriveTrain:
1. Spec Stage II Clutch
2. 3.73:1 FFRP Gears
3. FFRP TLock
4. Pro 5.0 S/T Shifter
Really basic set up and it netted me about 187@ the wheels and a 14.773 in the 1/4 mile.
Supercharge, turbos, and N02 are also good ways to make power!
Just look around and do not be in a hurry, just research every part. With the right set up you can unleash the beast!
