i have a '89 lx conv 5.0. my top and frame are destroyed. so i have been looking for either a replacement or find out if i can use something else. to my knowledge the mercury capri was almost 100% identical(the usual small things differ) I also have seen a few that had removable hard tops. can i use the mercury hard top? And does anyone know where to find one?

There was one guy a couple of years ago on some of the Mustang forums that was talking about building a custom hard top for the convertibles, but I don't think anything really ever came out of it. As far as the Mercury top, I really doubt. If it was a moderately doable swap, you would see more people do it. I've never heard of anyone using any type of Mercury hard top.

I know of a junk 86 mustang convertible that I believe still has all of the frame in good shape. The car used to be mine, but I sold it to a guy who took the motor and now the rest sits unused. The car has pretty tough body damage, but the top was always in good shape. Canvas needs replaced, but frame was great. Let me know if you are still interested and I'll try to find out if it's still available.

I would love to have a hard top to drop on my car during the winter... to bad no one makes one... someone should have taken them up in 94/95 (which ever year) after they had them on the cobra as an option.
