98 GT has 225 horsepower. if it's a 5 Sp your looking at 192 to 195 RWHP Auto about 180 to 185 RWHP. The BBK TB and CAI may give you 10 to 15 more RWHP So if your looking for 300 RWHP you have a way's to go. I'm sure other's will jump in a with more info or correct on my rough caculations.
manual firgure 15% lost thru drive train auto 20% lost

With the mods listed. I don't see the 289 even with a SCT chip or x-cal tuner or any tuner maybe he did more then he's telling you ask for a dyno sheet

The PI swap is different heads and intake....and it is what gives the 99gt 260 compared to your 225....i dont know how much it cost to do the swap though, someone else can probably chime in and tell you that.

the 96-98gts are the slowest so they need a good bit of work. A head swap is a great way to boost performance. By doing the 99+ PI swap onto your 98 you will raise the compression and get more power than the 99+ have~ thats not a bad way to start out. With the mods you listed you are no where near 289rwhp.... not even close

I'm reading that you only get 5 hp from the heads so I'm going to save the money and just do the cams and intake should cost around 800

you might only get five horsepower out of it now, but as lowflyn said "later" is where it will really count. if you go blown your increase will much higher the pi heads and intake than stock 98heads and intake.

most GT's ive seen that go PI swap go above the 99-04 gt's 260hp to about 280-285 (so from your stock 215 to 285) as it raises the compression.. not sure on the TQ probably about the same. You could do a set of custom grind cams (not out of the box cams) and port the heads a bit to help. I cant remember but I think it raises the compresion to near 10:1 or more so you will probably need premium fuel after this.
Try and find someone thats done the PI swap that has dyno numbers to see where they are. They should be 235-255rwhp at least.
You could do a 4v swap but not sure all that is needed... probably be easier buying a donnor 4v and swaping the entire engine.
