i was at a red light and all of a sudden my car dropped in rpms and idled real rough until i hit the throttle. it dropped from about 700-800 to about 500-600 and kinda started sputtering, kinda like it was running low on gas but i had a 1/4 tank. i havent changed the fuel filter in about 50k miles, so i'm thinking that might be the culprit, about 40k miles ago i did a complete engine flush. i used that kit from b&g that you run in the gas tank and in the throttle body to clean out the motor and fuel injectors........might be the fuel injectors too. its not a tranny shudder b/c i broke hard a few times and everything was fine, no shudders. everything is shifting fine as well. and it only did it that one time, the rest of the night it idled fine, in drive, neutral, park.

any other ideas as to what it can be?

It's probably payback for not going out last night. Your car is just bitching at you for it.

it has to be something related to the fuel line and/or ignition... but hell if i know haha. either that or some rodent that nested in your engine bay met its maker haha.

could potentially be an intake leak or a dirty MAF too

if it were an intake leak, wouldnt it have kept doing that though? i do have a rip in the rubber sleeve but as of last week it wasnt leaking air.

also, do you think an auto parts store would have just the rubber sleeves to replace it? or if not, who might have it?

It depends, once LTFTs adjust to an intake leak it won't act up as often

LTFT's?

but once i replace the rubber sleeve, it will go back again and re-correct itself, right?

and you think an auto parts store would have the replacement rubber sleeve?

yeah, they have them... but they don't have the right size for the GT or at least not the intake I have. I have a small tear in a portion of mine, but I picked up some sealant for it until I can find a sleeve that fits better. Mine is kinda short, so it pops off some times if I get wheel hop or if the engine really torques over. Prolly not the best design.

LTFTs = long term fuel trims, it either adds or removes fuel to keep the short term fuel trims cycling around 0%

but yeah any vacuum leak or intake leak (any unmetered air/air getting into the system after the MAF) can cause that, if its not bad enough it won't trip a check engine light, it has to be a pretty severe leak to cause that..

could also be your IAC is starting to fail... or stick

your ECU had a brain fart. pretty much every car ive ever owned has done this once or twice for no reason whatsoever. now if it does it again then i would start worrying, but if it simply cut rpm's and the corrected itself i wouldnt worry about it. maybe hook up a scanner to see if theres any DTC's present (just cause you dont have a CEL doesnt mean there isnt any Diagnostic Trouble Codes/DTC's).

it cut rpms and idled rough, i gave it gas to leave the light, and it didnt do it again......so technically i dont know if it would have corrected itself b/c i didnt really give it time to do so

It would have continued sputtering if it didn't fix itself. Mine would get into modes where you could only go 1/4 throttle without it pulling timing. Talk about annoying. My culprit ended up being the frpr.
