"Service engine soon" light

OK tech guys, mine's a 2000 GT, no engine mods, just exhaust & suspension, w\65,400 miles on her & the "Service Engine Soon" light came on tonight on my way home. I bought her used & didn't get an owner's manual with it. Does anyone know what this "light" monitors?? I really don't want to take her to the dealer, so any info is greatly appreciated.

Well the light probably says what it means. Service the engine. if the CHECK engine light came on then you ought to worry.

The computer in OBD II monitors a lot of different things....go to an auto zone or car parts store and they should be able to hook a scan tool up (for free) and tell you exactly what the code is. |

get it scanned at autozone for free if they can only tell you the code write it down and post it

if your car is running fine it could be something as simple as a O2 sensor and sometimes it's even a gas cap that isn't on tight enough. |

Well, I was on my way to Advance this morning to get her scanned, & the light went off on the way there. They still checked for me & the code was...
P0042 EVAP Emission Control Sys Small leak
So I'll wait & see if it comes on again, then do something about it.

just don't buy a locking gas cap a lot of times you will still have problems with your check engine light being on. |
