Just got my new laptop from HP. Thought it was a pretty sweet deal with everything I got loaded into it.
Intel Core 2 Duo9300 series chip (2.5ghz)
3 Gigs of Ram
250 HD
DVD-CD Burner w/ lightscribe
15" HD screen
GeForce 8400 GS 256MB graphics card
12 cell battery
Wireless B/G/N card
I paid 1100 for it. Something similar to this I figure you'd be spending at least 1500 for. I don't think you can find the 9000 series chip in any laptop just yet. I know Best Buy just got in some laptops with Intel's new 8000 series, but nothing in the 9000 series and Sony wants 1600 for it, course it included a Bluray player, but come on. Why bother getting a laptop with bluray if you can't play it at 1080p?

I bought it through HP's website. Normally I wouldn't tell people to buy laptops or desktops from the manufacturer, but I can get a discount on some of the things they have. I wanted a fast machine but I knew HP didn't have their fast ones out on the market yet. So I did it all online, it also had free shipping and shipping went quickly. They shipped it one day and I got it 1-2 days later. It was in China, then Alaska, and then it was at my door lol
I am loving this laptop though, I have to compare HP laptops to other companies because it's my job.. but I really like the HP's over any other. Well built, well designed, and nice features. AIM me when you get the chance with the stats you want on it Brent and I'll see what kind of discount I might be able to get off of it for you

My problem with HP's is they tend to eat harddrives...

I could be wrong but I believe HP has a blue ray 1080i in a 20" LAPTOP. Around 5K though. Saw it on ebay. GGBIW

I won't ever buy another HP laptop. I was less than impressed with the one that I had. It's been a long time ago, but I have trouble forgetting stuff like that.

I am in the market for a laptop but don't know enough about them to make an informed decision. I'm buying the new Ford f350 Harley truck that has the flip down rear seat dvd with a 7" screen option or the Moon roof. You cannot have both as they conflict with each other. I'm leaning towards the Moon roof and buying a laptop which I can set on the front center console and the Passengers can watch a movie on a much larger screen as well as I have the computer to use. The center console has a slot for a laptop as well and a 12 volt accessory plug. GGBIW

They've gotten a helluva lot better than how they used to be. The majority of products coming into Best Buy's Geek Squad sevice for repairs has been Dells. And the last time I bought a Dell for my folks, it was supposed to be better than my brother's HP computer in terms of specs. Holy God that thing ran slower than the older one.
Granted, my first computer was a Dell and it was good for about a year and problems arose. Same thing happened with my Alienware though. But seriously, my brother bought an open boxed HP computer from Circuit City and the only issue he's had with it for the 3-4 years he's had it was a virus but that's nobody's fault but his own. Otherwise it's been quite nice.
Different strokes!

If you wanted anything smaller with all the gadgets of having Windows and stuff it'd cost a bit more expensive. I know sony and samsung? have small hand held type laptops. I don't think they are all that special though.

Actually I liked the one you purchased as it has the HD screen. It's 15" as well. I did see a high end HP with 20" HD with a 2.8 dual core processor that did everything. It was 5 K though. Probably wouldn't fit in the center console laptop slot and it was heavy at 15 LBS. GGBIW

no. i would recommend against always getting the higher/highest end computers. big waste of money considering moore's law (over time performance versus price increases exponentially). also, that laptop has an achilles heel - the 5400RPM HD. id recommend a 7200 so it could have a faster read/write time. id recommend paying something between 1500-2500 for a good laptop that is worth the price. i personally always go with the higher end of the mid range powered computers/laptops/hardware... they offer great performance (not the best) with a significantly lower price. id recommend the 1000-2000 range though if all you are doing is computing and need a bit of performance but not pushing performance (games, 3d rendering, etc.). if i needed a laptop to go on the internet, do things in MS office, and had good battery life i would spend around 700 dollars... 1-2GB RAM is all you need... processor, HD, video card, etc... its all kinda irrelevant. hell, i might even buy a 499 acer and slap an extra stick of memory in there if i needed a budget one.

Whenever I buy a laptop, I look to buy the smallest one I can find, with the most battery life. The only upgrade I ever spring for is more memory. Maybe the optical drive, depending on what it comes with by default.

Thank you. Basically I intend to play HD movies to the rear passengers but will also have an internet dish installed on my RV with a wireless router enabling us to use the laptop for other purposes. I build computers for a hobby and the one I am using has 2 rapter hard drives that do 15,000 rpm in serial atta raid. Blazing fast. I did see that the lower RPM notebook hard drives become a bottleneck. Do notebooks have serial atta raid? Do you have any suggestions? GGBIW

Hey brent, try and find a laptop with a more powerful chip.. mine's mildly over clocked and its still slower than my old school desktop 2.6 P4 1.66 just doesn't cut it, dual core or no, esp if you're running vista

I really like it, i used lightroom and photoshop a lot and it seems to run just fine. the battery life sucks vs a MAC pro book, but i have my GPS on here and its nice and small and the screen is still nice and clean.
