Although I am not a practicing Catholic and I do enjoy sex with and without "atificial contraception" lol, I was raised Catholic and the whole anti-contraception thing stems from the "general Christian belief" that the purpose of sexual relations between a "man and woman" is for procreation ONLY...In other worda, the purpose of having sex is to bring life to this earth...That being said, using artificial means of contraception implies that you are engaging in sexual relations just for the fun of it and the general christian belief, especially catholic, is that this is frowned upon...
The only means of "contraception" accepted by the catholic church are abstinance (especially pre-maritally) and "something" family planning (I can't remember the first word off-hand)...the family planning thing is having sex with your spouse around her ovulation schedule, blah-blah-blah...
but yea, its not crazy at all as far as the whole christain belief system goes...but as i said, i enjoy sex, so oh well lol

Hmm, I am not sure if the anti-contraception thing is as big of a deal with most Protestant Christians. I've never heard anything denouncing the use of contraception when married.

^+1.
I have never heard of any christians downing contraception either. Just keeping the sex normal and not enjoying any fetishes, and of course being after marrage. Thats one of the reasons christians get married at such a young age, to be able to have sex with the person they love.

Which is one of the reasons we have such high divorce rates.
All in the name of God though, right?

I wouldn't say people are getting married just to have sex...that's kinda out there. I think people aren't taking the time to get to know the other person and just jumping in headfirst before realizing it's the shallow end lol

you are right about that...and it's because "most" christian sects are or have come into the 20th and 21st centuries...
The catholic system as a whole is still very archaic and i doubt it's going to change any time soon...That is a big reason why I am not longer a practicing catholic...they still live behind "rules" that are centuries old and in today's "modern world" seem ludacris...the whole "artificial contraception" thing is a perfect example...other examples of the archaic practices of the catholic church are only allowing men to become priests and requiring complete vows of celibacy...
If the whole child molestation thing didnt bring an end to the catholic call for celibacy, i am not sure anything will to be honest...
Most of your protestant sects are a little more "liberal" in how they approach topics such as the contraception thing...plus they also realize there are much bigger problems in the world than who does and doesn't use a rubber...of course, there are plenty of christian sects that have issues in them just as catholicism does...
The biggest reason the cahtolic church denounces the notion that JC was married and fathered children is because it would completely bring down their hierarchical system of priesthood, celibacy, etc. because they would have no basis for it...
But as far as it changing the belief in JC and his teachings, his potential marriage and bearing children has absolutely no impact on that...but the catholic church won't let you forget it...
In a lot of ways, the reason(s) that most of the modern protestant christian sects are around today is because they evolved into the modern world where as the cahtolic church is still trying to view the world as if it were 1492...Catholics don't like to change their practices for evolving circumstances no matter what...Catholicism is the "original" christian church without which no others would exist, but on the same note, the catholic church really does need to realize that it's the 21st century and that there are more important issues in the world than a couple going to hell because they used a condom...
sorry for the long blabber...I was just raised catholic so i know how it works and there are a lot of things about catholicsim and pretty much all christian sects really that bug the hell out of me...

Adding sins?
Isn't that illegal or something? :P
I mean, God didn't come down and say, "Oh hey guys, I just came down and wanted to add some sins that ya'll can't break. Sorry I've been gone for so long, being the master of the universe and crap is tiring. Sorry about all the wars and natural disasters I missed, but some of you deserved it."
You know, god is sorta like that guy who flirts with a girl at a bar, gets her drunk, has his way with her and then leaves the next morning and the girl gets pregnant. At least, that's how I kinda see it.
