i was told that ford has a different electrical system that all other cars. I was told that when working on a ford you HAVE to put the battery termanial on the opposite way you took them off or eles it will reverse the cars polarity and will throw alot of electircal things off. Is this true? because i find it hard to believe.

I am not sure what you mean by reverse the pos and neg wires vs other cars... the positivie HAS to go on the positive line and the negative HAS to go on the negative line, there is no such thing as reversing them.

i thought the OP was talking about if you take the pos cable off the battery first, then the negative, you will HAVE to put the negative back on first then the positive or else it will cause damage... regardless, i have never heard of that before but im no mechanic.

All the service manuals tell you what order to remove and reattach the cables, but I've never seen it matter. I just connect 'em up however I grab 'em.

Since the '50's (GM until the early '70's) most car manufactures have adopted a negative chassis meaning the chassis acts as a ground for the whole car. Current always flows from negative to positive, from the anode to the cathode. The only way to reverse the polarity for a car is if you were to switch the battery terminals where the original negative lead is connected to the car's wire positive lead wire, in which case current wouldn't flow and could cause electrical damage to the car. If you notice on your battery and follow the positive and negative leads, your negative will ground directly to the chassis, most likely right under the battery or in the engine compartment and the positive will run into your firewall and all the other electrical components under your hood.
