you can only go 115mph stock due to the tires wont go any more (speed rating) if your tires are not rated to go faster and you do it can be VERY bad not to mention going much over the speed limit is one of the most dumb things you can ever do while driving a vehicle. If at the track then go for it but on the street dont

Its the tires and the stock driveshaft. You can get a custom tune to get rid of the 115 mph speed limit, but, get higher speed rated tires and a higher speed rated aftermarket driveshaft before you do..

Yeah I can take it off with a custom tune but watch out for the driveshaft, it may fail at 115+ on the 05 up V6s.

That's actually pretty scary...I can't count how many times I took my 02 up over that speed and the driveshaft never even crossed my mind. I thought I had good tires and that was enough.

with the transmission shifting so the rpms stay low the driveshaft wont ever get that high or are you talking about it going at say 6k rpms for a long period of time? that might do it.

well at 115 mph I dont think it would be fair to call it a mustang. Becuase at that speed I would consider it flying and horses dont fly. At that point a mustang shuold be called a pegasus. or a low flyin airplane.

well if you ever race anyone more than 1/4 mile and you dont go over 115 pretty much any stock car will beat you. for instance a stock hyundai tiburon (poorly made korean car) will do 143 stock. my mustang tops out at 135ish and I was maxed out on the highway but still got passed by a stock cobalt ss. 115 just isn't as fast as you think it is and if you think it is, your car deserves a new driver. just my opinion.

just because your car CAN go that fast doesn't mean you should. Hell, you don't see me doin' 143 any time. I can't remember the last time I broke 85 to be honest... the Mustang is a muscle/pony car. If you want to drag it, take it to a drag strip. If you want to Fast and Furious it, auction it up. Otherwise, shut up, go cruise around and have fun, but don't be stupid. I don't want you losing control at 115+ mph, or losing a driveshaft that finds its way through my windshield at that speed and coming at me. I'm sure no one else doesn't either.

At the track you can go as hard and as fast as you want as thats where those types of things need to take place. At the track for instance I would be trapping around 112-114mph in the quarter... thats fine but I dont ever plan to go that fast on the street. Its just about being responsible and knowing what to do (dont do stupid things) thats all their is to it.

and if the Cobra can only get to ~115... why would you need to remove the limiter? It's not like that's causing you a slower time.

I'm not saying I've never done it...just not the brightest of ideas. You won't catch me trying to top my car out though, not worth it.

my point is, there's no reason for his car to go near that fast except on a track, and he's probably not road racing. Therefore, he'll only need to raise it for the quarter mile, and he can't get to that speed anyway.

That's true but we've all been guilty of it at one time or another. I guess I've just grown out of the "I've got to top out my car everyday" phase. There was a time that 120 getting place to place was nothing though...

I think the fastest I have been in my car was like 95 MAYBE 100 on the interste. I was passing a car and got up their before I knew it or I wouldnt have went quite that fast. 99% of the time I set cruise at the speed limit and let it be.

I'll admit I've hit 130 in the vert, just didn't realize how fast I was going, slowed down when I actually saw the speedo. Not used to having to back off the gas pedal when merging...

I do 85-90 on the high almost daily getting to work. the speed limit is 75 and other people go this fast too but I have never had my car past 100. No need for it on streets.

143 in the GT... the week I got it. I don't think I've gone over 110 in the last year.
