Just got 02 GT vert, noob exhaust questions

Just got me a nice 02 vert, almost looks new 50k miles on it. I want the exhaust to be deep and sound mean. I have watched videos and the flowmasters are the ones I like.
I am new to this stuff though, seems like theres 3 parts to the exhaust, the header, mid pipe and muffler? Do I just need to change the muffler to get this sound or midpipe or both?
Can anyone link me to what I need to get this sound off the internet.

a cat back will get you a deeper and meaner sound. but replacing the whole system will be even better but not always worth it right of the bat.
edit: not always best bang for the buck.

Hey, your car sounds a lot like mine. I just recently purchased my '01 GT coupe convertible with about 50k miles on it as well.
It came with a really nice-sounding cat-back exhaust system. I believe/suspect it to be Flowmaster, but there's no way I can tell [or is there?].
Anyway, the Flowmaster American Thunder cat-back exhaust system will probably be the best-sounding for your vehicle.

You can tell if you have flowmaster exhaust by looking on the muffler. It'll say across the whole thing length wise, "Flowmaster".
As for sound... You want best sound? Borla Stinger Catbacks, and put an off road x pipe.

BBK x-pipe with stock mufflers. Sounds plenty mean for me.

Welcome to the site. I second the Borla Stingers Catback system w/ an off road x, although I looove my MagnaFlow catback and am getting an off road x pipe soon myself. Borlas sound very mean, just depends how loud/deep you want it. I have a few friends who would buy nothing but FlowMasters and love them.

this is one of the worst questions to ask... honestly go on youtube and listen... and those are not 100% accurate...
I think the bigger question is if your going with a mid-pipe are you going catted or cat-less?
Catbacks are 6 one way half a dozen the other... i got SLP lmII to be different (but not it seems a lot of people have them)...
the point is dont let someone tell you want to get... get it because you want it... if you dont know wait till you hear them and ask...

start off with the catback. when that gets tired (if it does) swap out the midpipe for a H/X of your choice. Catless will be louder and have a slightly more defined tone but are also illegal IN EVERY STATE, and depending on your state, might not be worth it (fines for CA are 4,000$ PER CAT or something ungodly like that). Xpipes are more exotic or defined tone while Hpipes are more mellow and throaty (the musclecar sound).

Not to change the subject but how do yall like your 02 gt verts? Im thinking of saleing my 87 lx and getting a 02 gt vert. Rude question but about how much did you pay for it? Im looking to see what most the prices are. I kelly blue booked it and they said around 12,000 from dealer and from a private party about 10 to 9 grand.
