What are some things i could do to make a v6 mustang faster? I know most people will say go with the v8 right off the bat but insurance reasons i have to go with a v6. Obviously supercharging it is the best but im looking for things a little cheaper for a while. Stock i know its 210 so about maybe 195 to the wheels. Im stuck in between a couple of car choices so im trying to see what i could do to it. One of my other choices is a Impreza WRX 230hp AWD or a STI 300hp AWD or even an Evo also 300hp AWD but i prefer the look of the mustang. (Current car is a 07 2.5 Impreza) My insurance would be like $40 more for either of my choices exept the stang so i kinda just want to know if its even worth it.

the v6 (3.8L or 3.9 in 04) have a ton of potential just like the 05+ Stock they are not amazing but with a power adder they can put out really good power levels, just a matter of knowing your goals

well my goals are to have a fast car thats reliable in daily driving. Thats why if i got one of my other choices i wouldnt take it past 350 hp till it was paid off. Same with a GT but since i have to go with a v6 i dont really know how much i can get out of it without a supercharger for a while. Or if its even worth it since i can just buy one of the other cars that are faster with cheaper insurance.

not doubting it cant.. just that ive read that theres no point in a v6 mustang performance wise.. that ill waste more money trying to upgrade that than if i just bought a GT.

well there are v6 mustangs putting out mid to high 9 sec quater mile times so it all depends on what you want to put into it and what your preference is i have a suparcharged v6 i love it, v8 can make a ton of power too i know ill probly get bashed for that but its true, but i love my v6 nothing like running a good quarter mile time and then get back in line and having people come up to me and say" what thats a v6 "

Yea I know what you mean. Nothing like the feeling of someone coming up to you and asking if your a GT and when you say "No, just a v6." and having a huge smile on your face as they go "no way, what you got done to it?"

I think the best mod after forced induction and a head/cam/intake is a gear change. 3.73's for the manual or 4.10's for the auto will really wake up the car.

anytime you mod a car enough to get to the power levels you want you will have issues and you have to take the risk of breaking it. If you can accept that then go for it.
A single turbo will put you in the mid 300s without much issue on 10ish psi probably. It is expensive but they work great.
You can build the motor and get around 230/230 na

yeah but a turbo or supercharger will run me about 4-5 grand not including installation. I really dont have that kind of money so im trying to get as much as I can without it yet. 230 isnt bad but compared to my other choices... Can anyone recommend a good year for the v6 or just the mustang itself? I was looking for parts online and i havent been able to find much for the 2008 which i was hoping to get. I like the older (2000-04 i think) bodystyle but i kinda like the 05-08 a bit more and its faster stock.

I wouldn't say that is true, look at the cost of a mustang V6 and compare it to a GT. Now do a true comparision between the price and find the difference keep about half of that as your budget for modding the V6..Then compare the difference in HP of the stock GT.
Use my example, first of all I intended to get a V6 in the beginning, but bare with me:
My mustang was stickered at 18500.
A GT comparible to mine in equipment was 26,000
Not even taking into account I got rebates that is 7500 difference
With all my current mods (tranny excluded, we are talk HP levels so engine only) I only have about 3000 in the engine (that includes labor) and I made a good 65-75 Hp to the wheels over what a stock GT ever thought of putting to the ground and still have less in it than a GT........So it is all about whether you going to buy a name and stock power or are you willing to put it on the line and drive modded beast!
The thing is you need a plan to figure out what car you are going to buy, what kind of power level you want and how much you have to spend...That should give you and ideal of whether a V6 stang is your cup of tea!

I mean if we are being 100% honest the GT has more potential but... the price you pay between the two can vary greatly. You can do a good bit with the v6 and the aftermarket is very bit. You just have to realize where the limits are and how much it will cost you to be there. If you are happy with that then go for it. Depending on how deep you go the v6 will be cheaper, as you push certian limits the GT may become a better choice, just do the math.
You can build a 4.2L engine (stroked 3.8) and put down great numbers on a single port (94-98 v6). It seems that a built single port will put out about as much power as a built split port (99-04) at least they used to with heads/cam/intakes/crank/internals/etc

as far as i know, all three other cars mentioned cost at least $10000 more than the v6. they are all good cars, but with that extra money, you could easily make more power than them. i dont see why you couldnt take the v6 mustang, add full exhaust, intake, tuner, and a supercharger at 9-11psi and beat those cars for less than they cost. but if they are all the same price, id go with the one that is the quickest.

You do know that the other choices for cars you have made hold high ins also, even more so than a GT in most cases ( reason I own a GT over the rest).
