So I am having problems with my fuel pump. I have changed the fuel pump relay but for some reason when I shut the car off the fuel pump stays on; continuously clogging the choke and draining my battery! So I am left with a car that has to have the battery disconnected everytime I stop for longer than 10 minutes. If anyone has any type of advice on what the issue may be please, please, please reply to this post! The car I have is a 1986 5.0 GT hatchback!
well i dont think the wiring got messed up becuase the relay is a simple plug in peice and yes this was happenin before i changed the relay... im not quite sure why the car is doing it but its pretty annoying to have to pop the hood everytime i shut the damn thing off thanx for the help though.... if you think of anything else man im all ears
your probably using the wrong relay, same thing happened to me, parts counters cannot seem to get the right piece for a late92-93 harness, finally picked up the right part from ford. no more problems.
Sadly no I have the year after they discontinued carbs.... sucks but shes quick! shes all stock and runs a good 12.5 1/4 mile... so no complaints yet... and yea your probably right bout the relay i bought this one from a local parts store... guess ill try a ford motorcraft peice and pray it fixes the damn problem...
