I am thinking about buying a 1999 Cobra. I have not looked at it yet but have a few questions before I do. I have seen a few pictures of it. First it has a six speed manual transmission. I thought the 99 had a 5 speed (six speed was not available until 2003?). Also on the right side of the trunk it has a badge that says "4.6 High Performance" in place of the Ford blue oval badge that I have seen on other Cobras. Is there any significance to this badge? Thanks for the help.

Stock they have a T-45(HD) transmission that is 5 speed, not 6 speed.

The badge on the back is also added, not stock. Keep in mind that you can get an 03 cobra for 20k with average miles or a bit over in good shape so dont pay to much for the 99 cobra.

Also the 99 had issues since they didn't have the advertised hp/tq and they had the intake swapped and tuned a bit and perhaps a couple other things so make sure this one ahs the update from ford.

It should also have an independent rear end

Thanks for the reply. I am going to look at the 99 tomorrow. It has approx 85k miles on it and they are asking 10900. How can I tell if the car has had the "fix" done to it that to solve the hp issue the 99s had? Also is the 6 speed a direct swap with the 5 speed? Is there a tag on the transmission case that I can use to identify the transmission in the car? I am trying to determine if I want to avoid this car or not. There are several 03s here that are listing for around 21500 with around 50k miles. If this 99 turns out to be trashed, then I will probably look at them.

its probably has a T-56 from another stang, possibly an 03 cobra. Not sure what all has to change, probably the bell housing and such to get it to work and a new driveshaft.

You can run the vin and see what has been done to it at ford (Oasis report)

its not a bad price I dont guess~ but an 03 will hold its value much more and is built better~ its just that it costs more so its a matter of which fits better with you.

Dude i registered just to tell you this.lol I own the Cobra your talking about i think. It was in Park City/Fayettville Tennessee right? Candy apple red, Black interior, 17"Cobra R rims. 87,000 miles. It was at Cars Plus. Right? Yes guys he is right, it is a 6 speed (kinda hard to get in reverse). It is smokin fast. And i didn't pay $10,900 for it. I paid $8,600 for it. But Steve (the owner of the dealership) is a buddy of mine. What a small world

I bought the car as is. The only thing it needed was the trans was a little loose on the cross member so i pulled it up on the racks and tightened her down and its smooth saling. The only problem other than that is reverse is a little tricky but who cares she's beautful. It was in a fender bender but i checked car fax and all that was messed up was the fender. So i basically stole the car
