I currently own a '98 mustang GT. I have recently acquired the IRS out of a newer cobra. How difficult would it be to bolt the IRS to my GT? Is it even possible?
thanks in advance.

its pretty much just a bolt in setup, I am not sure on the rear chassis bolts~ not sure if it just bolts up where the quad shocks go or what~ its in that area either way. Other than that it just bolts right in. You will probably have to get a new driveshaft though.
its a GREAT idea to replace all bushings in that rear end as well as the stock ones allow the rear to move aka wheel hop.

It'll fit...not too bad really. You do need the mounting plates that came off the IRS car though. If you don't have these it'll be a difficult install. Also, you'll need to either change the shaft on the rear end to accept your driveshaft or just change out the U-joint to one that accepts the IRS. The bolts are different between the two.
Also, your solid axle springs won't work with the IRS as well as your rear shocks. Be prepared to replace your current parts with IRS parts.

Thanks guys. I appreciate it. The IRS I have is complete. Springs, axles, driveshaft, everything but the mounting plates. But those shouldnt be too hard to find. Thanks again.
I'll let you know how it turns out.

May be a little bit now. Motor hydrolocked on my way to work this morning. Need to get it back on the road before I mod it anymore...
When I get around to the IRS swap, I'll make sure to get you guys some pics.
