i went to the dealer for possible cam phaser replacement but that wasnt done cause they believe the noise i hear is caused by my oil filter, i got back from the dealer and they changed the oil and stated the fram oil filter doesnt have a vent that allows for the oil to reach the top of the valve train due to lack of pressure build up, which could equal noise and knocks from decrease oil saturation. the mechanic was pretty persistant about needing to use the motorcraft oil filters.(with recent research from other sites i found that infact fram oil filters can cause engine noise) they told me if i have anymore problems with noise to bring it back in a month and theyll do a complete tear down. i played stupid and asked can i buy the oil filters here just to see if he was just trying to get me to come to them and buy em and have my oil changed and he said you can get them at walmart to save some money. anyways the slight knock is gone at idle but i do still hear a rhythmic swishing noise at idle when standing and having my head next to the grill on the car.do any of you have the same sound. can you check on your cars.

the mechanic is correct, only two filters on the market have a drain back that the ford engine needs. the oem ford and the wix filters, dont use anything other than those. the oem ford filter is actually one of the best oil filters on the market for the money.

does K&N not have the drain back valve? the box says it does if aplicable and that what i use on my 07. if not maybe thats why mine is noisy too.
