this is going to sound retarded but i had a friend that was arguing how to read timeslips...
the question is... is reaction time counted in the 1/4mile time? is the time on the slip correct or do you need to subtract out the reaction to get your cars actual time?

Reaction time is solely there to let you know if you were sleeping on the line or not. It has nothing to do with your 1/4 times. The time for your ET isn't started until you break the lights at the starting line.

Yeah, but it doesn't count in your timeslip time. Man, you're going to confuse the poor guy.
Just to clarify, R/T is important as you want it to be as close to a perfect light as possible (this could be .001 or .501 depending on the type of tree they are using at the time)....as your R/T lets you get out before the person in the other lane so you can have a bit of a head start.
However, your R/T does not count towards your over all time. basically, when the light turns green, the reaction time clock starts...once you move forward and break the beams, the reaction clock stops and the E/T clock starts. the E/T clock doesn't stop until you cross through the traps at the end of the track.
For the record: E/T = Elapsed Time, R/T = reaction time

Your statement is correct, his statement is not so correct.
even in bracket racing your R/T has nothing to do with your over all E/T...it only determines your over all head start...or lack there of...over the person in the other lane.
The best way to practice your launches to get the best 60' time possible is to not worry about the tree...and not try to jump the light. To just let it go green and focus on the launch more so than trying to get a low R/T.

your time is from when your starts moving (the lazer breaks) to the time you break the lazer at the end of the track, you could sit their 4 hours and it wouldnt mean your car got from point a to point b any slower/faster. In bracket racing its the first to cross the finish line, in that case the first one to take off has the advantage./
