Suggestions Needed: Daily driver < $1000

Well, It has gotten to be that time where I am going to need a DD. The plan was for my current project car to be the DD before I tore it down, and now I am glad I passed. The motor was on its way out for sure.

None the less, I'm looking for suggestions, and even a heads up if you know someone selling something that would work well in the price range I am looking for.

So, I'd like to keep it under $1k. The further under, the better...but 1k is max. I don't care the make/model as long as it doesn't have a V8....I'm not really caring about the shape of the body either as long as it will run and pass whatever inspection it will need here. The key is for it to be running...and not about to die once I get it home.

So, does anyone have any recommendations as to what to look for that will last me 6-12 months of about 200 miles per week? I'm not familiar with anything outside the blue oval, hell, outside the mustang for that matter. So any thoughts will be great.

And if you know someone dumping a car for cheap that you know still runs, let me know. I don't care if I have to go get it. I wouldn't mind another 4cyl fox as long as it ran...it could be project fox 2 once i finish project fox 1.

All it needs to do is get me to work and back while running on panther piss 87....that's all that matters to me. A dirt cheap car that if it dies, you get another dirt cheap car.

do a bit of research and find some deals and you can have a decently quick and reliable DD. i know someone local to me selling a b20 bottom end with a gsr head and a SI tranny w/ecu (basically drop-in setup) for like 1000$. Sad to say but that would be a fun little DD, get excellent mileage and have at least some get up.

If I remember that car correctly, it had like a resonator that exited just after the front seats. (car used to be built to full STS specs for SCCA autox)
