I was reading that one of the vendors is having a sale thing on their Magnaflow exhausts. I was going for a Borla but I was wondering if the Magnaflows have the same sound/performance as the Borlas do.

Pretty much the same sound if you go with the Magnapaks....the regular Magnaflow mufflers are much tamer sounding and not "In your face" loud when you mash the gas.
Borlas will generally be "In your face" loud when you mash it, and tame under normal driving...yet still a good bit louder than the general magnaflows under the same circumstances.
So, yes, they are the same if you get the magnaflow magnapaks...
I have a video at home of my 2002 GT idling with the regular magnaflows on it.

I really want the Borlas so I think I'm going to get it. It'll be a while but hopefully it will be worth it.

Oh, I know you talking about the cat-back, but not the stingers just the normal turbo style mufflers. I think that the stingers sound goofy.

 :
I love exhaust threads, everyone has their own opinions. The goofy-ness of stingers is probably why everyone always asks me what exhaust I'm running and say it is the best sounding one they've ever heard.
But, some love SLP's, I think they sound like garbage. Some like chokemasters...I think they sound cheap. Everyone has their opinion which is probably why it's a good thing we each own our own vehicles so we don't have to do what everyone else says sounds good...

Amen to that, PureVenom. Constant compliments on the Borla stingers. I'll +1 to everything else you just said as well.

I have friends with Borla Stringers (Rob, PureVenom, has those as well and they sound really good), a few friends have the MagnaPacks which I loooove, I have the MagnaFlow catback and I love how it sounds.
I would personally go with MagnaFlows over the Borlas, but that's just me. Most of the better quality brands sound really good, it's definitely worth going catback.
Good luck!

It's maybe a teeny tiny bit loud for me, but it sounds HOT. And didn't you help pick out my exhaust out??

a "teeny bit" loud... pussy.
I "like" it... it's sextastic.
And luckily, Borla has options for those with baby ears.

Ok, you guys!
No, there is no such thing as being to loud, I didn't say that. I said I love the Borlas as well, I just said if it were ME, I would go MagnaFlow over Borla, but they're both good.
I don't have baby ears. If I did, I wouldn't be swapping out my MagnaFlows for the MagnaPak mufflers or the Borla mufflers and getting the off-road x. I just said that Rob's (PureVenom) system is very loud, there is nothing wrong with that. I couldn't wait to get the catback put on after I bought the GT.
Sooooooo......think you can handle this?! I'm just teasin' you guys.
Everyone knows I like it loud.

Hi there!
I'm new to the forums.
I'd definitely go for Borla.
I own a '99 GT auto trans Pony and I'd like a Borla cat back. Which set up of long tube headers and x/h pipes would you use to take full advantage of such great cat back?
Thanks!!!

If you have the money and will only settle for the best, get Kooks long tubes. If you still want good but are on a budget, get Mac or BBK long tubes for your '99 GT.
As for the midpipe, it is up to you if you want to run an O/R setup or not, but the brands I'd trust are Kooks, Mac, and Bassani.

Stainless works makes some really quality headers as well....they are right up there with the kooks.

Yeah, it gets expensive. Install is a bitch too. I can easily cost you a full day if you do it yourself or $550-$650 if you have it done.

Indeed it is expensive. But you cannot view it as a purchase but as an investment.

Yeah, I had Kooks in mind but as many guys here said those are quite pricey.
So, If I understand this, Any combo of headers, mid pipes and exhaust, as long as they are for the same vehicle will fit? I mean, let's say I save quite some money and go for Kooks and Borla. If I couple that with bassani or MAC for midpipes will I be OK? Sounds like Frankestein to me...

They are all made to fit the specific car. No issue there. You only run into issues when you get long tube headers, the mid-pipe get shorter. Generally, you get the complementary mid-pipe to the headers and then cat-back is whatever you want.
