so a friend of mine blew the head gasket in their car. They really don't have the money to fix it at a shop, but I was wondering how hard it would be to fix? I have a healthy portion of tools, and I have rebuilt an engine, but it didn't run before the build started so we didn't expect much from it, especially since we only changed gaskets. Anyone feel like throwing their input on this? I just feel bad for them and would love to help fix it if I could.

since you said "Gasket" in singular i would assume you are talking about the 4cyl versions which IIRC is a 420a motor that was used on a bunch of cars, namely chryslers (neons, sebrings, etc) and the 95-99 non-turbo eclipses (the uber slow piles).
I have pulled and built up a 420a for my cousin and it is NOT FUN! those motors are fucking garbage and the engineering in that car is crap, it has a conundrum bolt for every task (Conundrum bolts are bolts that to remove, you have to remove another part, but to get to the second part, you have to remove the first part that you were trying to get in the first place, IE a conundrum)
Now if its the V6 version, i havent a clue but seeing there is now two heads to remove, have fun.

well, I haven't offered my services yet, but they said not much else can go wrong with the car. I just feel bad trying it just to have it not work anyway. I think I might tell them to just junk it and find a new/cheap car.

Join a Sebring forum and see if theres any profit to be had in parting it out.
My buddy just made $6k off a car he bought for 3500$ by parting it out, and he still has half of it left to go!

I doubt this person would be able to part it out (mechanically) and I don't feel like driving up there (25 miles) to work on parting it out, when I have a job and stuff that I have to focus on.
