I just got the new Car and Driver and despite what the news says on the homepage, Car and Driver confirm that the 4.6L 300hp engine will be placed in the 2010 mustang, not the 5.0L. Just thought I would share.

It is still fun to speculate. I saw the that same article in the new Car and Driver. I'm hoping for the 5.0L Anyone want to bet or set up a prediction pole? lol

I don't ever take the mag's words for gospel until it is proven reliable. Over the years many things have been said and never came to pass. Chevy coming out with a new Camaro, Dodge with the Challenger, i would hope Ford won't allow a large horsepower/torque gap between the cars again. |

the new gen V8s should be out by then. ford will be making a mistake imo keeping the current V8 because they will be very behind the challenger rt and the camaro z28 |

I hear BOSS 5.0 is ago for '10MY but not on the early J1 date ...later, possibly around the ususal summer J1 date. I've also heard it will be GDI and a TT version is in development (but no decision on production). Still, I keep hearing rumors from 'inside' that the BOSS 5.0 *is* a TT :shrug: I guess we shall see about a year from now

There's a zero chance of that happening, nor would I want it to even tho the canted-valve 302s were awesome.
This 5.0 is a modified DOHC modular with slightly longer sleeve length to accommodate the slightly longer stroke but also with a slightly larger bore in an improved/strengthened alloy block -- roughly 'square' at approximately 3.63 x 3.65 b/s. I hope they do an NA version for at least one year (at 400HP or so) but I'm hearing there's a strong chance it will be GTDI at well over 450HP -- we shall see. I doubt Ford will take it to 500 and step on the GT500's toes. Then again, the GT500 might get the KR's CAI and tune in '10MY which leave room for a +/- 485HP BOSS 
Those numbers are all 'rumor' but anchored on specific conversations as of April '08. Ford has a bunch of irons in the fire for mustang and I don't know if a final decision has been made yet for '10MY - but it has to happen very soon if it's ti ship in a year or so. There's always the possibility of pushing it out a year, but that's not what I'm hearing.
As long as it's a light curve-carver with the right handling pieces and not a lot of frills and with a free-revving DOHC alloy 5.0, I'm a happy camper ;-) |

5 liters engines are more for hi end edition mustangs.
The GT base V8 should stay at 4.6 (Or less, BMW and Audi both get 420hp from a 4.2 DOHC NA).
A little 360hp (rwhp?) would be enough for me, plus better fuel economy, more rpms and a lot less pounds. |

the 5.0 will be in the '10MY Boss, summer of '09. B/S = 3.63 x 3.65, longer sleeves, beefed block, revised heads. |

Cool! Is yours a 5.0 stroked 4.6 modular or a 5.0 SBF?
Boss will be a revised modular, 5.0 via a little more bore and a little more stroke so it's a 'square' B/S like the 4.6 -- should rev good too! |

whats with the 3.65 B/S BS.... don't we want to get away from the flaws of the 4.6's? shit im all for a square bore, but do it with a 4" or larger width... Didn't we learn anything from the 305 chevy?
the small bore stuff can work, but you'll have to do it with a "hemi" style head in order to get any decent size valves in there. regardless of wether you have 2,3,4 or 5. personally I don't see whats so wrong with being oversquare, the LS1's rev just fine.

I was just at the Auto Alliance plant where they build the Mustang. The 2010 will still use the 4.6 but the 2011 is definitely getting a 5.0. I've seen all the new 2010's (V6,GT, and Shelby) and there isn't a huge difference in the body style. The main difference is the rear of the car is a little more rounded off and the front has the cowl looking hood and a slightly different looking front facial. The Shelby has some new flat black ground effects that look pretty nice. |

Who cares about the 5.0 anymore. I want to see the new Boss 6.2 in a production mustang. They're putting them in the SVT raptors starting in early 09...

that's great news the 5.0 is a LEGEND and belongs in the STANG again that's for shure probably 400 hp , maybe they will up the hp for the 2010 4.6 and do you know if the new 5.0 will be push rod or ohv??? |

I don't know if it's going to be overhead or push rod, but I doubt they'd go back to the old push rod design for a new car. |
