Will the 2010 Mustang have a 5.0L or the same 4.6L 3V found in the current 2008 Mustang GT?
Take your pick

The 2010 will have the 3V 4.6. I do, however, see the 5.0 becoming an option in late '11 or early '12.

I got my C&D last week and it's going to have an available 6.2 L V8 producing 400 HP. It'll suck gas but it'll be cool. I doubt people will buy the big one, says gas is supposed to get up to 8 a gallon by me. Not trying to turn this into a gas discussion.
It'll be fast.

I posted a link in the (2010 Mustang will not have a 5.0) forum confirming this but yes a NEW 5.0 motor will be in the NEW 2010 MUSTANG 400 hp 400 fpt built in Canada ,IRS is VERY LIKELY due to the fact that the new platform in 05 was actually designed for it and Ford knows it has to compete or lose market share to the others, so it will be a close race vs the Maro and Chally , the picture from CAR AND DRIVER MAG of the new Mustang is very close to the real deal Blue Oval sources say plus expect the car to come in with less FAT than the Maro or Chally. I do like the Camaro SS and Challenger SRT8 and Mustang GT all great cars all with a lot of history behind them ,and each a little different with there own style , it will be hard to decide what to buy next year that's for shure , the MUSCLE CAR RACE IS BACK YEAHHHH

Losing the HP war hasn't seemed to have much affect on sales relative to their direct competitors, so I don't really see any reason to be worried about it now...
I am leaning toward the 3V 4.6 again...it's a good motor, and Ford typically doesn't put a motor in a car for just one generation of that car...It usually services a particular model car for 2-3 generations before the next "big thing" comes along...

Yes you are correct but the new (2010)Stang has to compete with the new boyz on the block and ford knows this remember the Maro and Chally are OBESE so even if Ford produces lets say 350hp with much lighter weight they will be in the game rest assured...

back say from 93+ the mustang really hasnt had any major competition~ the camaro was not selling very well so they didnt have to worry about matching performance numbers. Now the time has come where the camaro and the like are comming back and they best match it....

No way, I completely disagree...making 400-500 HP is all well and good, but how much of the general public will be able to afford that car, let alone the gas for it?
That being said, increasing power output should and probably will not be ford's focus on the "new" mustang motors...If there were to maintain the 300ish HP they are making now while increasing fuel economy by 5 or so mpg, those sales would crush the sales of a 400-500 HP car that only gets 12-15 mpg...
While I agree personally that HP is greater than MPG, most people don't...the general public will sacrifice some HP for MPG as long as the car looks good to them and it still fun to drive...
so a 300HP "good-looking" car for $25K that gets 30mpg highway will sell a hell of a lot more than a 400HP "good-looking" car for $35K that only gets 22-24mpg on the highway...

the 302 5.0 of course, it is a LEGENDARY MOTOR having history all the way back to 1969 MUSTANG WITH THE BOSS 302 ENGINE in fact FORD already sells them in crate motors pruducing up to 500 HP all aluminum block . Ford knows it's history and knows the importance of the 5.0 legend . These motors were very free revving and high hp with fairly small displacement which made them legends indeed.. bring back the 5.0 in the new 2010 STANG please ford ... here is the link for the new BOSS CRATE MOTORS http://http://www.worldcarfans.com/2...engines-return

I'm sorry to inform you Mr. Gladiatoro but the old 5 liter (actually, it was really only 4.9 liters) is dead.
The 5 liter that Ford is selling aftermarket (and Saleen is using in the Parnelli Jones edition mustang) uses the modular motor. It's essentially a 4.6 liter that been bored and stroked to attain the magic 5 liter displacement. After adding 4 valve heads, high compression, and all the other go-fast stuff it reaches the 500 hp mark. I agree that the old 5 liter was a great motor but it was time to move on. And, besides, it wouldn't pass modern day emission standards anyway.

yes technically the new one is a bored and stroked motor but it is a 5 l none the less for modern times, I think ford will bring back the 5.0 in similar fashion as the 4.6 Parnelli Jones motor here is a link of the NEW 5.0 now let's hope the new car looks good too , in less than 3 months we will know .. http://http://www.leftlanenews.com/f...ang-spied.html

lol this could bounce back and fourth forever and then some... I would love to see some of the hurricane engine series making its way into something... fords been working on them for a long time (they have the cylinder deactivation protocol and other neat efficencey boosting stuff) Ive heard about roumoured 35mpg (in current mustang weight class) 6.2l 450hp mills they run on 4 cylinders on the highway like the impala SS which works (albeit not as well as gm wants you to think and its hella expensive to repair) but its foreward thinking and they could always introduce a way to shut it off for when you feel like being particularily daft on the highway haha... best of both worlds i think... Also if gm and daimer are gonna throw 6L+ engines in their cars for the same war why the hell doesn't ford? Hell ive been wondering why they dont use the ford Falcon engine in the basemodel mustang??? (ford and holden *GM* have been fighting each other forever and the new holden VXR is using the LS3 engine from chevy so that sounds like the camaro right there...) they churn 400 hp out of it and i think its a straight 6... so make a basemodel 325hp straight 6 and a 425 hp GT model with the 6.2l PROBLEM SOLVED and muscle car fight won comments??? thoughts???
