Will the 2010 Mustang have a 5.0L or the same 4.6L 3V found in the current 2008 Mustang GT?
Take your pick

The 2010 will have the 3V 4.6. I do, however, see the 5.0 becoming an option in late '11 or early '12.

I got my C&D last week and it's going to have an available 6.2 L V8 producing 400 HP. It'll suck gas but it'll be cool. I doubt people will buy the big one, says gas is supposed to get up to 8 a gallon by me. Not trying to turn this into a gas discussion.
It'll be fast.

I posted a link in the (2010 Mustang will not have a 5.0) forum confirming this but yes a NEW 5.0 motor will be in the NEW 2010 MUSTANG 400 hp 400 fpt built in Canada ,IRS is VERY LIKELY due to the fact that the new platform in 05 was actually designed for it and Ford knows it has to compete or lose market share to the others, so it will be a close race vs the Maro and Chally , the picture from CAR AND DRIVER MAG of the new Mustang is very close to the real deal Blue Oval sources say plus expect the car to come in with less FAT than the Maro or Chally. I do like the Camaro SS and Challenger SRT8 and Mustang GT all great cars all with a lot of history behind them ,and each a little different with there own style , it will be hard to decide what to buy next year that's for shure , the MUSCLE CAR RACE IS BACK YEAHHHH

Losing the HP war hasn't seemed to have much affect on sales relative to their direct competitors, so I don't really see any reason to be worried about it now...
I am leaning toward the 3V 4.6 again...it's a good motor, and Ford typically doesn't put a motor in a car for just one generation of that car...It usually services a particular model car for 2-3 generations before the next "big thing" comes along...

Yes you are correct but the new (2010)Stang has to compete with the new boyz on the block and ford knows this remember the Maro and Chally are OBESE so even if Ford produces lets say 350hp with much lighter weight they will be in the game rest assured...

back say from 93+ the mustang really hasnt had any major competition~ the camaro was not selling very well so they didnt have to worry about matching performance numbers. Now the time has come where the camaro and the like are comming back and they best match it....

No way, I completely disagree...making 400-500 HP is all well and good, but how much of the general public will be able to afford that car, let alone the gas for it?
That being said, increasing power output should and probably will not be ford's focus on the "new" mustang motors...If there were to maintain the 300ish HP they are making now while increasing fuel economy by 5 or so mpg, those sales would crush the sales of a 400-500 HP car that only gets 12-15 mpg...
While I agree personally that HP is greater than MPG, most people don't...the general public will sacrifice some HP for MPG as long as the car looks good to them and it still fun to drive...
so a 300HP "good-looking" car for $25K that gets 30mpg highway will sell a hell of a lot more than a 400HP "good-looking" car for $35K that only gets 22-24mpg on the highway...

the 302 5.0 of course, it is a LEGENDARY MOTOR having history all the way back to 1969 MUSTANG WITH THE BOSS 302 ENGINE in fact FORD already sells them in crate motors pruducing up to 500 HP all aluminum block . Ford knows it's history and knows the importance of the 5.0 legend . These motors were very free revving and high hp with fairly small displacement which made them legends indeed.. bring back the 5.0 in the new 2010 STANG please ford ... here is the link for the new BOSS CRATE MOTORS http://http://www.worldcarfans.com/2...engines-return

I'm sorry to inform you Mr. Gladiatoro but the old 5 liter (actually, it was really only 4.9 liters) is dead.
The 5 liter that Ford is selling aftermarket (and Saleen is using in the Parnelli Jones edition mustang) uses the modular motor. It's essentially a 4.6 liter that been bored and stroked to attain the magic 5 liter displacement. After adding 4 valve heads, high compression, and all the other go-fast stuff it reaches the 500 hp mark. I agree that the old 5 liter was a great motor but it was time to move on. And, besides, it wouldn't pass modern day emission standards anyway.

yes technically the new one is a bored and stroked motor but it is a 5 l none the less for modern times, I think ford will bring back the 5.0 in similar fashion as the 4.6 Parnelli Jones motor here is a link of the NEW 5.0 now let's hope the new car looks good too , in less than 3 months we will know .. http://http://www.leftlanenews.com/f...ang-spied.html

lol this could bounce back and fourth forever and then some... I would love to see some of the hurricane engine series making its way into something... fords been working on them for a long time (they have the cylinder deactivation protocol and other neat efficencey boosting stuff) Ive heard about roumoured 35mpg (in current mustang weight class) 6.2l 450hp mills they run on 4 cylinders on the highway like the impala SS which works (albeit not as well as gm wants you to think and its hella expensive to repair) but its foreward thinking and they could always introduce a way to shut it off for when you feel like being particularily daft on the highway haha... best of both worlds i think... Also if gm and daimer are gonna throw 6L+ engines in their cars for the same war why the hell doesn't ford? Hell ive been wondering why they dont use the ford Falcon engine in the basemodel mustang??? (ford and holden *GM* have been fighting each other forever and the new holden VXR is using the LS3 engine from chevy so that sounds like the camaro right there...) they churn 400 hp out of it and i think its a straight 6... so make a basemodel 325hp straight 6 and a 425 hp GT model with the 6.2l PROBLEM SOLVED and muscle car fight won comments??? thoughts???

I think most of us are going to be let down. Everybody is expecting big changes to keep up with the new Camaro but I think were only gonna see a very mild bump in hp. Although a 5.0 with about 375hp would be nice for a base Mustang GT, and that would probably be enough for it to keep up with a Camaro with no problem.

I agree with mph07alloy. Look at the Shelby GT and Bullitt. A $5000 increase for 15hp.
Ford hasn't taken drastic jumps since 03 with the GT/mach 1/cobra.
260vs 305-315vs 390+
I think they'll stay with the 3v 4.6 for a couple of years, and replace it completely in a few more years with their ecoboost TT V6. They have been working on that engine for a while and are thinking about putting it in mustangs. However, I would be very upset if they did not offer a V8 powered car. If they were smart, they would offer the ecoboost as the top engine, and offer a lower hp V8 also.

I just came from the Auto Alliance plant. The 2010 will still use the 4.6 but the 2011 is definitely getting the 5.0.

You are correct code name COYOTE 5.0 is coming
"I just got back from a Ford parts and service meeting last night in Waco. It was sponsored by ford's Field Service Engineer program. It was pretty freakin' cool. During the course of the meeting, they had a slide show for upcoming new platforms for vehicles. One in particular caught my eye. it was for the 2011 MY Mustang GT. The confirmed motor in this thing is Called the "coyote" motor.
The thing is, its a BMF. It is the 5.0 TiVCT 32v motor. Stock, the thing puts out 400 hp, and 375 tq. It has 11:1 compression, and a redline of 7000 rpm. This IS confirmed to be in that car. They also had pictures of this thing crammed into the engine bay. Keep in mind, that motor will take the place of the current 3v 4.6 281's. Ford is FINNALY phazing that motor out.
The other motor that they are putting on the assembly line, is the 6.2 Boss V8. There is no current platform for this motor, but it is confirmed that it will not go into a f series truck. It very well could end up being a strictly SVT motor for a cobra. The 6.2 has a very low compression ratio, and dual sparkplugs per cylinder. The horsepower in for that motor is 375hp, and 410 tq. seems perfect for a blown, or turbo application.
Either way, the next few years will be pretty exciting!"
7000 RPM WOW

more evidence of the NEW 5.0
CODE NAME COYOTE 5.0 QUOTE
I think this 'revised' modular may surprise many. First it's TiVCT -- Twin Independent Variable Cam Timing, a proven Ford tech on Ford-Europe DOHC I-4s but never before built into a Ford DOHC V8 to my knowledge. TiVCT provides much broader and flatter torque curves, more effective anti-detonation management, and better efficiency than a typical NA engine would otherwise be capable of.
I think the StangNet comment on compression is valid for a conventional engine but might not be as much of a problem on a TiVCT engine since independently variable intake and exhaust cams should permit programming for high static compression ratios with better detonation control. So additional boost, done right, should not be a problem, imo. This is new stuff! Too bad it's not also Direct Injection (DI) -- or at least there's no mention of it -- since DI would greatly improve the ability to manage detonation for two reasons: 1) there's no fuel in the cylinder during compression (it's injected at the last instant) and 2) DI directly cools the combustion chamber just when detonation would otherwise be likely to occur (at max compression). I'm sure DI is coming but maybe not just yet. Still 400HP in a volume-build 5.0 TiVCT DOHC V8 in the GT will be one smokin' value!!!
There are so many 5.0 variations recently (and over the years) that you need a playbill to keep 'em straight:
-There's the old (and Boss redux version) of the 5.0 pushrod SBFs that were highly oversquare (4.0"bore 3.0"stroke).
-There's the FR500C modular DOHC 5.0 "cammer" which uses Ford spray-bore metalurgy liner technology to get from the effectively square 4.6 (3.552 bore x 3.543 stroke) to 5.0 via bore alone yielding a slightly oversquare engine that likes to rev a bit freer.
-Then there's the PJ Saleen which, although Saleen hones the cylinders for truness, actually gets to 5.0 with all stroke, i.e. it winds up a little under-square.
-My understanding is that the Coyote is different than all the predecessors: a revised and strengthened roughly 'square' design like the 4.6 but using thinner conventional cylinder liners (2.5mm vs the 4.6's 4.0mm) to increase bore about .10" and also slightly longer sleeve to accommodate about .10" stroke increase yielding approx a 3.65" x 3.63" B/S.
These were very likely the 2.5mm-liner alloy blocks I spied on the Romeo volume floor -- though they're to be produced at Windsor according to StangNet and that's consistent with what I've heard too.
How cool is this? A volume-build 5.0L TiVCT DOHC V8 with 400HP flatter torque curve, better mileage (11:1 comp. and TiVCT should be good for a couple mpg), and carrying a modest GT price tag is huge, imo!!! And at 3500 lbs it will kick Camaro's 6.2/430HP and Challenger's 6.2/475HP fat butts from NY to LA! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/hysterical.gif) (...and there's always the GT500 for serious fun which likely get's a tweak for '10MY as well).
The 5.0 Coyote in the GT could be the best performance value in a very long time -- I bet Ford will have to limit the build-mix because these puppies are going to sell!!! I strongly suspect it will also be a multi-octane engine happily running on a default of 87 octane since Ford is committed to all enignes getting the new ECU programming asap ...and with TiVCT it just makes that much more sense, imo.
Will be interesting to see exactly what internals Ford stuffs in the Coyote. I suspect the GT will cracked-powder rods, aluminum hypereutectics and beefier cast crank. However, a Romeo special production-blueprinted version with forged internals might make for a sweet BOSS SE, don't you think? ...if Ford ever actually does one! Still, the '10MY Coyote GT sure sounds like the poor-man's BOSS many have been hoping for!

so that 2010 will have anew 5.0?
thats crazy. will it still be considered a modular engine?
what about using the modular 5.4 such as the one used in the shelby gt500s
i think the 4.6's are ok but we do need more power especially with those new gm and chrysler pussys coming out.
what ever happens i know ford will make the right decision
after all we're the onlyones not in bankruptcy.
cant wait for the new stangs with the new engines camaro pu*sys beware

the 2010 has the 3v 4.6L just like the 05-09 with a 15hp boost, no one knows for sure on 2011 but its speculated a 5.0 3v engine (long time coming)
