Better tires = better 0-60?

I read somewhere that just putting sticky tires on the rear wheels will improve 0-60 time substantially but I was wondering what brand and if anyone knew the exact figures on this (assuming perfect conditions, perfect shift, etc)
I have a 08 manual v6 and this idea makes sense because I can spin the tires effortlessly going into every gear but 5th, so eliminating wheel spin should launch the car harder right? The car is completely stock.

it will definitely help... mickey thompson drag radials work awesome but only last around 3k miles, bf goodrich gforce drag radial (which I use on the stang) lasted about 6500 miles.. nitto drag radials (that I used on my 02 GT) lasted around 15k miles..

spinning the tires and just barking them are two different things... does the new v6 have a limited slip? you might want to start there... practice is just as big of a deal as tires!

I'm pretty sure it doesn't have limited slip, but I'll have to check on that. I know it doesn't have traction control. Does barking the tires mean chirping them?

yeah just louder .... i mean tires are just delaying the problem... if youre gonna put the power down then do it right... it would look pretty funny to have slicks and only spin one in the burnout box

Nitto drag radials sound like a winner, thanks! I'm going to wait until I can actually drive stick well enough before I put them on... almost there

Ahhh, so limited slip keeps both tires spinning instead of just one... got it! Damn I'm a newb!

think about it... if you put two tires in motion compared to one... you have twice the traction to start with...

in my 65 i went from 2.80 gears with an "open" (would only spin one) and i put a beefy traction-lock with 3.40 gears... it would spin more (even after the gear reduction so there was just more torque to the ground) with the non-limited slip with wimpy gears

does a larger gear at the rear end make each gear lower or higher?

the higher the number the lower the speed...
if you have a 3.27 then a 4.10 is going to make your max speed much lower (but youll get there faster)
if you have 3.27 and you go to like 2.8 youll have more top speed but it will have a hard time getting out of its own tracks

Got it, that's what I thought but I just wanted to make sure. That probably eats up some mileage with the lower gears though. I thing hitting 60 in 6.6 is fast enough I just need the traction of a limited slip. The only other thing I'm interested in is taking off the speed limiter (I hear it will hit 130 without it) but I don't want to get a superchip and have to advance ignition timing and all that. Any idea how I can just take off the governor without obviously voiding warranty?

If you're worried about voiding warranty get a handheld tuner like a Xcal or the like, you can always flash the cpu back to stock before carrying it in.

for you... id recommend SCT and stick with the "stock" tune... it seems your kind of green to the gearhead theory

The SCT is just vastly popular. It must be for a reason . . .
No need to get defensive, rwboring. Different people want and use different parts. That is the beauty of options with the Mustangs.
