Alternator Questions

Hey everyone, Just found this forum.. Looks pretty nice.

I've got a question right off the bat..

Does anyone know what is needed to run a alternator?

Or if theres a special way to wire it.

I'm thinking it wouldn't be smart just to put dirrect power to it.

Info is appreciated.

sure, but we need to know some more, what model car?, you doing factory stock or a one wire solution? how many amps do you need?

It's a 1985 5.0.

Atm it's got the stock wires coming out of it.. but going no where since the wiring harness is gone...

So I just need a way to hook it up to a switch so it's on/off when I need it to be..

Amps don't matter, I need just the normall amount.

See, I was thinking you can just hook it up to straight 12v power, but it has a regulator.. so I just need to know how to hook each up to work properly.

probably your best bet would be to get one of the one wire aftermarket solutions. just hook it to the positive post on your battery and throw a big fuse in there and cruise

Yeah, but I don't have the cash to do that...

So I need to figure how to hook this one up... There's obviously a way if it worked before...

Just need to know what goes were.
