i have a 02 5 speed 3.8l and others in the forum said to use 3.73 gears on a manual and 4.10 gears on a automatic. Why do people not recommend 4.10 gears on a 5 speed if it adds much more get up and go?

Eh it dont matter, i got a buddy that has a 5-speed with 4.10s.
The only problem with taller gears is, if you put on a power adder u wont hook on your launch

How's the wear and tear on the engine rps when cruising the freeway.
Anyone an authority on that one. I here it should be installed w/the t-lok at the same time for v6's so there's no 1 tire fire.

yep def needs t-lok for dual posi but i think the 4.10 gears might put out alot more acceleration than the 3.73 gears

mine is at about 2400rpms at 70mph, if my buddies math is correct. With 4.10s it should put you around 3500 to 3800 rpms at 65 mph there are quite a few factors in that he cant account for, anybody correct me if im wrong

with 4:10s you will be doing 2417rpms at 70mph with 275/45/17 tires(26.74 diameter)
my math is correct...
4.10s are the way to go on a v6, we run 4.10s on a 450rwhp cobra and leave the line just fine.

so with 4.10s you will lose rpms in a stock situation

ok those numbers i gave you were for a t45, may be a little better with the tremec 3650.
im running 315/35/mikey thompson drag radials, they hook fricken awesome but they are pricey and wear out on the street fast, i paid 700 for 2 shipped, mine hooks solid more due to the suspension, i have fulltubular coilover front and solid race rear. all with no urethane bushings.

so basically you will save gas on the freeway at 70mph just not in the city.
Would there be any problems not hooking with 4.10 gears if i instal a t-lok and have a race suspension all the way around

not if the susapension is set up right, i launch at 5K rpm with just a tire chirp hen my nitrous comes in.
, you wont really gain or lose mpg either way

with 3.73 or 4.10's you'll lose a little bit of mpg on the freeway but you probably will gain some driving in town

My main concern is about any type of premature wear any where as a result of the gear change.

no premature wear on anything else, we havent found much difference on average for mpg by switching to 4:10s its just more tempting to romp on it so most people lose mpg because of that fact.

"Don't fear the gear!"
4.10's in conjunction with a T-Lok for a V6 is the way to go without a doubt....

I dont know why I had 3.73 in mind for a V6 stick. I thought 4.10 was for Automatic for smoe reason. NO?
