Why do people still get oil changes at Wal Mart?

Wow, unbelievable. Did you read the other article at the bottom about them "doing" oil changes?

Sounds about right. I did pay someone to change the oil in the cobra today. Just haven't had the time. 14 bucks later I'm back on the road with mobil1 synthetic and a motorcraft filter.

hrm. i wouldnt have thought the cap alone would let enough oil spew out to cause engine damage, if leaving the cap off lets any oil come out in the first place (on my gsx, cap off, any rpm no oil escapes, Cobra havent tried). i could see if they left the filter on there loose or the drain plug, both have gravity and some pressures working against them.

not to mention she heard the noise, pulled over, saw the motor and oil, and continued to drive. you hear any engine noises you stop the motor then and there.

gotta be more to the story IMO.

While I worked part time a walmart last year. I know of 5 spearate times in 8 months where they stripped the oil plug and in 3 cases they let the supervisor know and sent the car to the dealer to have the pan replaced. 2 times the mechanic let them leave without saying anything and boy were the customers pissed when they found oil on their driveways the next day. Luckly the leaks were smll and did no damage to the engine. What was said about the mechanics are true though no certified technicans at wal-mart simply because they make 7.50 to 9.00 hr. No certified mechanic will work that cheap. Thing is there are over 6500 walmarts and they do thousands upon thousands of cars every day. At that rate they can absorb a certain percentage of screw ups. Also in most cases you go back to the store the manage aor assistant manager will authorize payment or repair to satisfy the customer.

they forgot to put oil back in my mother-in-laws jeep... they had to buy her a new engine (took nearly 8 months to get them to do it... talk about POS's not backing up their work)

My self and my dad are the only ones that have ever and will ever touch my engine and oil... (sometimes if dad does his and has all the stuff out he might check mine and it its close he will go ahead and change it then tells me that he did hahaha)

That's normally how I am. The place I had to it knows if they screw up anything on my car they lose the business account...and we have 30 trucks that get everything from oil changes to transmission work through that one store only.
