Hey al, just wondering...my car has just hit about 84k miles on it. When would ya'll consider an engine having too many miles to mod?

What are you wanting to mod? If you are just gonna do bolt-ons you're fine. I'd even say it's ok to run a little boost if ya want.

Depends on the year 3.8.. 99+ I'd say your fine.. older I'd say bolt ons.. but boost would probably blow a head gasket

also depends on how much you drive it. if its just a weekend car, go nuts... but if you drive it to work everyday, it might not be the best investment.

Head gasket on the pre 99's maybe.
84k I would suggest doing a compression check, if the motor was well maintained then you should be fine.
Just open a savings account called "built shortblock" that way if it goes out in 50k you'll have some backup.

+1 ^
Also, if you are new to mods and you don't plan on this car lasting too too many more years, just to simple things to get you deeper in the game and gain knowledge for the next time

just slap a eaton blower on top of it, and you should be able to make 500rwhp on a stock v6 regardless of milage.
i know plenty of people who have started modding motors with more milage than that. dont get to crazy with it and you shouldn't have any problems.

^^^^^ like kyle said, maintenance has alot to do with it, we recently pulled down a 150K mi 302 and it still had machining grooves in the cylinders...

condition is just as important as how many miles~ if the car has been taken care of and such then it should be much better for modding~ if its just bolt ons it should be fine... but with any engine if you beat on it to much it will break.

check compression and go from there. there isnt a set mileage that you cannot mod past, its different for every car, all based on many variables. You can have a car with 250k on the motor and it could very well have better compression than a motor half its age.
