spring problems, 1st post

Put Eibach pro kit springs on my car (2001 mustang). The front dropped like it's supposed to but the back didn't. It's sitting noticably higher. I took it to 3 different shops and they all said it's the springs. It doesnt look like Eibach or the place I got them from is going to do anything for me, so my question is could i cut the dead coil on the rear springs or remove the spring isolators to get another quarter to half inch drop. Will it do any damage to the car? Thanks in advance for any help.

It raised your rear??? Wow never heard about that. SpectorV could probably give you some advice on cutting the rears.

Sorry I worded that bad, It didn't raise the rear, it's just didn't drop it very much, so now the rear is noticably higher than the front. Just want it to look more even with the front.

ah got you.... the rear springs dont lower as much as the front. But it shouldnt be as bad as you say yours is. Do you have a side picture of your car with the springs and without them?

I have the same problem with the Steeda sport springs. Steeda are made by Eibach... So who would have guessed?  I'd wait for them to settle and see if that helps.. I recommend against removing the isolators unless you like a really noisy ride.

Dont have a side picture to post but it's definately not low enough in the back. I also have talked with the tech guy at eibach and he says they probably wont settle any more than they are. The guys at one of the shops I took it to said they've had the same thing happen to a couple other cars with eibach springs too.

Yeah. My rear springs seemed about the same height as the settled stock springs... I don't know if you should cut the coil or not, but removing the isolators would suck on a daily driver.

Same with mine, It dropped a little but not enough. The eibach tech guy is acting like this never happens. I'm trying to get them to send me new rear springs, I'll fight with them more on monday. Decided against losing the spring isolators, I read a couple other threads, sounds like a bad idea.

crap guess what springs are sitting right next to me... waiting for my new car... Eibach.... lol
O well. Maybe they will fit better on pre99

I am not a big fan of Eibach. not they are not good springs but seem to have more problems than most. Most Eibach springs are not designed to cut unless they say you can. Here are 2 big problems I see with eibach
A. They cater to imports
B. In my reading on all the different boards I have read many post about the inconsistancies and lack of Quality Control of their product.

My springs were like 1/8th" shorter than the stock ones.. If that. I figured they'd settle a bit.. But, if not.. Well. I don't really care. At least it's not the other way around. Nose-down stance is alright with me. Maybe they just wanted us to put bigger tires in the back...

go measure your drop front from ground to top of fender (the under side edge of the wheel well) and from the rear the same way, stock is 28.25 inches front and rear~ I am sitting at 27.0 front and 27.5 rear with my c springs with HALF a coil cut on the rear, its probably not a good idea to cut the eibachs, but if you had to cut one, the rears would be the best set to cut... I am not gonna say cut em but you can.... I would call eibach and see what they have to say about it, you have to make sure your pig tails are facing right, jack it up and take a look they should be facing back or to the passenger side, the farther you rotate yoru coil so that the inner part of the spring away from the pig tail is sitting on the perch the lower the car will be, but you can only rotate the spring so much before it goes all the way around and the pig tail is back on the perch lol, just turn the spring sot hat the pig tails are facing the SAME Way and probably toward the passenger side for maximum drop on those springs. you cut the top of the rears if you do any cutting.
getting the springs out is super easy, jack up car, take off wheels, unbolt shocks AFTER putting jack under pumpking and jacking up rear end (rear end being the axle) then drop rear and place jack under one of the ends (under an LCA will do great) and jack up this will force the other end downa dn you can get the spring out super easy, then repeat for the other side and get the other spring out...
only 2 bolts need to be removed. if you cut ONLy cut half a coil and see how it looks, but you really sould measure first and see how much of a height difference you are dealing with, and make sure you dont go do it out in the YARD get on a freaking flat surface lol a for SURE flat surface.

dont forget they are really soft springs too and dont give much (if any) suspension gain on our cars

Hm, ha damn Eibachs. I got the exact opposite problem. Fronts didnt get disired drop but back is fine. Believe it or not they did settle about 1/4 an inch out back for me.
Im sitting at just under 27.5, I guess 27 3/8. Front for me is 27.5, not low enough in my opinion.

Thanks for the info spectorv, I asked the eibach tech guy about turning the springs like you said and he said that should lower it some, so i'm gonna try that. He said the only way eibach would replace them was for me to send them back where I got them, have them send them to eibach and then they would test them to see if they meet their specs, if they don't then they would replace them, if they do they just send them back, said they would have them for 2 to 3 weeks to test them. I told him if I couldn't get them to look right by turning or cutting I was gonna pull them out and trash them, and then buy ford-c springs.

That is true Brandon. the fact is I have a friend that put Eibach's on his Civic and it bounces to much. He has to slow down when going over little pothole or uneven road or he will bottom out. He changed back to the stock springs

Hey now, I have a used set of Eibachs on my GT and they are fine! I don't have a complaint with them really. I do think the Steedas I took off the front might have been a bit stiffer though, and I am going to try a set of Eibach Cobra R front springs on it soon too.

Why don't you look at H&R Race Springs? Or maybe Super Sports?
